A little confused about the engineering school...

Now, this isn't that big of a deal, but is making me a little confused. I applied to UT with first choice major in the McCombs Business School and second choice major in the Engineering school. I got accepted into McCombs a while back (top 10%) and am currently waiting for the decision on whether I got into BHP or not. I had also applied for the honors engineering program. However, today I got an e-mail telling me that I was not eligible for the honors engineering program because I was not admitted into the college of engineering. Although engineering is not my top choice, I was pretty confident that I would at least get into the engineering college (not honors). I'm top 2% of my class (nearly 1,000 people) and have other good qualifications. However, that e-mail states that apparently I did not get into the engineering college, yet when I went to the status check, It didn't say anything about me not getting into the engineering college.

I'm wondering if this is because I put engineering as my second choice major, so when I got into my first choice major (business), I would be automatically not admitted into my second choice? Or is it simply because... I didn't get in the engineering college? Thanks.

The reason why you choose a second-choice major is just in case you don't get admitted to your first-choice major. Once you were accepted into McCombs, you're application didn't need to be considered in the school of engineering because you were admitted into your first-choice major. Had you not been accepted to McCombs, then your application would've been considered for admission into engineering. It's not that you're not qualified for engineering, it's simply because you were already admitted into your first-choice major.

For now you're just accepted into one major, so don't worry about not getting it - that's just how things work at UT.
