A Question About Iub

hey everyone, i havent received my decision letter from IUB yet, though you told me that i should receive it at most by the end of the week. Did anyone of you received it?

welll yes i knw .. noone has recieved it... i guess they will be out on monday though i am myself amazed at how they cud have previously stated the fact abt decisions last week..

SM

hey guys, i have a question, do u NEED to know german and do u all here know german already?

or can u just apply, and if u get in, go there and are expected to learn the language?

i know the courses are taught in english, just the language in the region is german, one would need to know how to get around etc. etc.

I know a girl who got into IUB and in her freshman she decided she did not want to learn german at that time. She didn't complain about anything. just my $0.02.

Well.. i have sum info on this front which u shud consider..

You dont need german for anything at the university and well globalisation ensured the german states also have a fairly decent english speaking population..

That said and done, a knowledge of german language is a added factor that wud benefit you throughout your college experiance .. but wait u dont need to be a speaker for the language b4 u come.. i knw a couple( more than that maybe) of ppl who pretty comfortably went there without german language knowledge and took classes frm the start at IUB .they are doing pretty fine now..Its an added comfort to you remember..The university life and also going around factor is hardly any big problem with language ( well ull be learning german anyhow dont worry .. as in basics b4 u come )

Also .. if u do choose to learn it beforehand ..its ok.. its a really nice language and not any very highly difficult one( i have starrted to learn and i am in india now )

moreover the benefit you get leave aside language which has been hardly a problem with anyone at all( they complain for so much english all arnd) , the different non US type feel and ambience of germany is very gud... the overall atmosphere and enviroment of the city and surrounding is nice to be and a change frm reg stuff..

SM

oh, so she left IUB? wha ....

what no maxy meant that the girl didnt learn german at IUB and still did fine in her freshman yrs.. she must have gone to a senior level this yr obviously..

SM

yeah man, im sure the city and sorroundings r awesome, if i choose to go there, i will go without any knowledge of the german language, so ill prolly take classes there itself

oh so, SM, how long have u been taking german classes for, and u r going to IUB as a freshman this year (september onwards?)

i think ill PM u man one day after my AP exams are over (im in US right now)

hmm.. i have been taking it for a very very small amount of time though with acquantaince with all nonnative speakers i can say its as normally diffficult to speak german as it is for anyone to speak any new language ...

Well so far the progress for me is gud . yes i plan to go to IUB in august..
do drop in a PM in case u want any info .. and well.. i am here for loong so no worries over anything like me leaving CC :p:p ..

SM

smartmind was right about the girl in his reply #47.

WOoHOo!! My friend got into IUB without submitting his SAT scores! :D

Just GCE O and A levels. But his results is really top-notch!

thats nice.. well so is he/she planning to go..

SM

Yes... he would really love to get out of tiny Singapore. But everything will depend on his financial aid package...

Just a question... does IUB need 100% of students' demonstrated need? And for scholarship... do they inform you through email or written mail? Thanks!

wel scholarships are announced in the letter of admission itself and as of aid .. yes they do meet the full need but that includes a substantial Loan amount as well

SM

scholarship... in the email or the written one? Because he received an email telling him he's admitted. But he havent got his written mail...

in both ..email and the letter in post too..

SM

Oh... so which means he didnt get it... how substantial is the loans?

oh...another IUB thread......

IUB.... a univ located in the north of Bremen (the poorest German state)in a small town called Vegesack. It is an ex-army base converted into a campus. The town is full of old ppl who only speak German and to get to the main city u need to take a 25min train !

mjehan: you seem really disillusioned with IUB.. bad experience??

nah.... IUB is good.... u learn a lot abt life if not abt academics.... and u get to travel Europe !

....but the academic programms cud be better structured .
