I was denied admission in EDI, so I've decided, unless things change, that I'll probably try to transfer for my sophomore year. I'm applying to other similarly respected schools (WashU, Rice, Emory, Tulane), but if I don't get in any of those, I'll probably go to the University of Mississippi honors college, which has a very good reputation. If I end up going to Mississippi's honors college and I am able to keep a high GPA, do you think a transfer would be as likely as a transfer from another top school?

I’m not 100% sure, but I have no reason to believe that you’d be put at a disadvantage if you play your cards right.

Obviously, there is a better academic reputation coming from WashU, Rice, Emory, Tulane, but that isn’t to say that Mississippi would kill your chances. If you really succeed and get involved at anywhere you go, you can up your chances.

It’s about making it work, and honestly investing yourself in the process. I guess the best thing to do is not look at it as you’re going to get out of wherever you’re going as fast as possible, but that you’re doing the best that you can do at wherever you are.

I’ve seen you around the forums, and I think that you have a great chance of getting into the peer schools, and are going to be successful wherever you are. Just make sure you’re living in the moment ;)

Again, I don’t have all the facts, but that’s just my input on the situation.

Yeah I definitely don’t want to go somewhere and only think about getting out. I’m sure I’ll be happy anywhere I go, but my heart is at Vandy. I may change my mind after spending a year somewhere else, but at this point, I think I’ll want to transfer.
