Transferring to Vanderbilt?

Hey everyone!

I'm a high school senior who, at present, doesn't quite have the stats to get into Vandy. My UW GPA is 3.68, W is 4.27 with numerous AP and Honors courses from a competitive school. My rank is in the top quarter. My SAT is 1720 (M: 520 CR: 540 W: 660). I am taking the SAT's again in June, hoping for 1800+. I have a few interesting/a little unusual EC's, and was President of one club in 10th grade. I'm in the NHS and Spanish NHS. Hoping for AP Scholar this year.

Ok so obviously I'm not Vandy caliber...yet. I know I'm capable of so much more; I just didn't do enough during high school and I regret it a lot.
So I'm applying to Auburn and Alabama as a freshman this fall, and plan on using that as my fresh start. Then I'll apply as a transfer to Vanderbilt during my sophomore year of college.

If I do well enough in college, do I stand a reasonable change of getting accepted to Vanderbilt as a transfer?
Oh and will I be required to send my high school transcript and SAT score as a transfer applicant?

Thank you!

PS: to clear up any confusion, I am taking a gap year which explains why I'm applying to college this fall.

If you start at AU or UA there’s a pretty good chance you won’t want to transfer. There is a lot of passion behind great education in those 2 schools.

Thank you, but it’s my dream to go to Vanderbilt, haha. But we’ll have to see!

Bump?

My understanding is that Vandy transfer admissions weigh college record much more heavily, but a lackluster high school record is still considered a bit. Admissions said over the phone it may be “taken accounted for” as they examine “all parts of an application”, but that it would not torpedo one’s application either. A 3.6 is a little bit too low for Vandy but still quite good though, and probably warrants less of an explanation than my 2.5 in high school. :p

Aim for a 3.7-3.9 at these schools, get that 1800+ and make sure you keep up ecs and you should stand a chance.

Don’t get me wrong though, I’m not a successful applicant as of now! :p

Ah, and yes, you’ll have to send both.

*I’m not a successful applicant as I haven’t heard back yet.

Thank you Prospects80!
