My S received a postcard from the National Society of High School Scholars and we wonder what this society is. There are so many societies and groups of similar nature, and wonder if it is something worth to pay attention (or even pay the membership fee).
I checked their website, but find just some generic descriptions.

Any society that asks you to pay a membership fee is bascially a business "scam" and worthless in terms of college credentials. Just throw the mailing away!

It's another who's who among high school students, National Honor Roll etc etc money making scheme that does not impress college applcation people. Real honors things like National Merit, presidential scholar, All State etc you do not get asked for money to get in. Rule of thumb - if they ask you to pay to be included - not prestigious. My D got one last year or year before - we did not submit it. Have to confess we did submit the who's who because we could do it free and it was fun to get her name listed in the newspaper. Have not included it in any college apps though - so many people get invited that I suspect application people would laugh if we included it.

Hope I am making sense - had minor surgery this a.m. am feeling a little loopy so if I am posting drivel I apologise

Thanks for your replies.
I wish I knew the CC a lot earlier!

Since we got this one after the presidential scholar thing, we just wondered if this one is different from National Honor Role, Who's who etc.
