A question

My sister is a first year student in PSU, she's going for Eng.

My mom just got a job in Temple University, so if my sis tranfered to Temple the cost will be free.

so, my question is hows Temple in Engineering? (EE and Comp. E)
is it a good school?
especially compared to Penn State.

I don't know if Temple has a better engineering program than Penn State...but a FREE Temple engineering program is better than a Penn State engineering program.

Also, if your sister attends Temple, she will be in the Philly area. She can always goto Penn State-Great Valley which is grad-engineering campus of Penn State right outside of Philly.

thankx for the opnion, any others?

Temple isn't even ranked top 50 for engineering wheras PSU is in the top 20.
BUT i guess rankings doesn't really mattter w/ the # of succesful alumni they have.

Sometimes rankings have very little to do with the quality of the undergraduate education, and more to do with things like univeristy research, alumni contributions, etc. With ABET accreditation, I think you can be pretty sure a program meets certain standards, and FREE sounds like an offer too good to pass up.

how about a Temple engineering program compared to Penn State engineering program?

[or a FREE Temple eng. program vs. FREE PSU eng. program]

I guess basically my question is it going to make a difference, in terms of salary and job oppertunities, if one attends a 2 tier or 3rd tier engineering college, is it going to be different from a top 20 engineering public school?

"if one attends a 2 tier or 3rd tier engineering college, is it going to be different from a top 20 engineering public school?"

It may...just may slightly different as far as that first job out of college but after that...NOT A DAMN BIT of difference.

Salary? Not really. From my own grad school's stats, salary is only marginally higher than the national avg (~2-3k). Job opportunity? Could be a big difference. Top companies usually only recruit at a few top schools and schools that are close to them. Just to name a few: AMD, Nvidia, TI...

i am still in HS, and I'm planning to go for Industrial Engineering.
since my mother works in Temple University it would be good to go there coz of ''free education''.

But the thing is Temple has EE & CS, ME, and Civil & Envir E.

so, should I go to Temple or some good IE schools? [a good IE school in my state and near my home is Penn State]

any ideas?

Temple's tuition is $10,700/year

Penn State's tuition is $12,700/year

Penn State is #4 in the nation in the graduate IE program

State College is more scenic and probably a lot safer than inner city Philly

But....you did say Temple would be free!

Temple + Free beats Penn State and a student loan bill all day

yea, but Temple doesnot have a IE program...

I find EE interesting in thier majors.

So, I guess I could major EE and minor in Business to enter a IE/business/Managment/ or IE related field.

[ Oh, PSU is ranked 4th for the undergraduate IE program and 3rd for the graduate IE program]

I am so confused over this issue.
The problem isnot the rankings but the majors, the free school doesn't have the major but the non-free school has the major which is one of the best in the nation.

my sis is a freshman in PSU, and she took $2500 of loan.

so if this continues in the same rate then after 4-5 years the overall loan would add up to $10,000 to $12,500.

Luckily for her she's going for EE and Temple has that major.

If $2500 is all you will need per year at Penn State as a loan, I would go with Penn State. $10,000-$12,000 is worth the debt for Penn State.
