A school club I can start? or some int. organizations i can join?

Hi everyone,

I'm a junior in San Antonio, Texas. and I've never been this stressed about colleges before.
My rank is probably 1-3, but I know I need to build up my extracurricular activities
to even apply to prestigious colleges including the Ivies.

I would like to found a club. Have any of you guys started or seen a school organization that was a great success?

Also, I would like to do something else outside of school (mainly volunteering for community service). Red Cross? Food Bank? Should I check out those? What other options do I have?

Thanks for stopping by :)

I'm starting up a mu alpha theta chapter at my school, you could try that

our school had one, but now it's abolished because
the teachers felt there wasn't a distinctive purpose of it.
what programs are you going to have in your club?

haha..we had a mu alpha theta at our school...but then this year the teacher quit, so i got my dad ( who is a math teacher at my school) to sponsor it ...so i'm basically a "leader" and now, there are only 3 ppl. in the club..obviously it is not very popular..though the years before there have been 10-20 ppl. in it..i don't understand...

what are you in to?? you can start a model u.n., that is what i have planned to do, but have not gotten around yet..

i started a young republicans of America club

is that like a conservatives' club?

we already have model UN..
our school's really big...3000 students overall

I think you should start a club about something you're passionate about, not just something to put on the application. If you start some random club and have no interest in the subject, that lack of enthusiasm will probably come across in your application. And if you're not enthusiastic about it, you'll probably have a difficult time recruiting members and teachers to help you.

I agree and do your volunteer work related to your special interest.
