A Typical Day as a UCLA student

What is your typical day at UCLA like?

If you live on campus life is easy. HOwever if you commute it can be hell (especially without a parking permit) I live about 16 miles away from campus so decided to move out of my aprtment (bad idea since I only paid $600/month for my own room and a parking spot)

When I lived on campus Id wake up around 8:00 for a 9am class get the shuttle take a class. Go to Ackerman for an hour then go to section for another hour. Get out around 12 grab a bite to eat either at cooperage or bombshelter read the daily bruin. Go to another lecture for an hour or so and done for the day by 2:30. Id grab the shuttle again go to my apartment get a snack or watch some tv for a couple of hours then I would walk to the wooden center at 5pm stay there to 7pm then go to powell to study until 9pm grab the shuttle back to my aprtment browse the web, read newspaper or some mtv then sleep by 11pm. That was the life now though since Im commuting

I wake up at 6:00 for a 9am class because although I live close to campus traffic is cr@p in LA. My first quarter without a parking permit I had to circle campus a few times to find a spot the one id find was usually two hour limit so I got my schedule to allow time for me to get classes done 3 days out of the week. I would park around veteran walk all the way to haines from veteran sit in for lecture for about an hour and a half then Id race to veteran to avoid getting aparking ticket. No gym, no socializing, no food just drive back home or to work which usually took between an hour to two hours itself. Grades reflect that also. I went from my first quarter of having an A-, B, B- to my second quarter having C+, B+, B so yeah dont do the commute if you can avoid it. Im loking to moving back on campus. SHould mention I am a '05 transfer student from PCC so Im still getting used to life on campus .

You don't really want to know. Lol. J/k. Well, its hard to describe a "typical" day for me on campus b/c most of my days are different b/c of class schedules but here's my typical Monday:

Alarm goes off

Hit snooze for about a half hour

Eat breakfast/pack a lunch (just because my classes this qtr don't allow me to come back to eat lunch in the dining halls)

Physics Lecture

Hour break (where I'll either catch up on some reading/hwk for my classes or go to Young Computer lab to check my e-mail)

O-Chem Lecture

Run to Work

Attend AAP Physics Workshop

Return to my room in De Neve

Relax/Study

Dinner with friends

After dinner for me it's either hang out with friends or do some studying (which depends on due dates and things,) but also once we get further into the quarter I'll be making regular trips to my research lab to do some work. Oh and Floor gov meets on Monday nights...

Once you get here, you'll start finding lots of things that you can do to keep busy with. Unfortunately, I think I found too many things to do... :(

ckings86, which year are you in?

Typical day for me, first quarter:

9 AM- wake up, shower, eat breakfast (yes, smartass, all at once)
11 AM- first class
1 PM- lunch at Lu Valle (joy...another burger)
2 PM- lecture
4 PM- head home
6 PM- dinner, relax afterwards, study
if I have work that night...
9 PM- go to work
1 AM early shift go home
or...
5 AM late shift go home

Repeat.

Last quarter at UCLA, however...

3 PM- wake up, start playing WoW
7 PM- eat breakfast
play more WoW
1 AM- eat lunch
6 AM- eat dinner
8 AM- go to sleep

Classes? I stopped going to those. Still got a 3.7 that quarter. :D

funnyman, I'm a second year.

ckings, did you live in a residential hall your first year?

Yes I lived in Rieber last year.

What is Ackerman and what is Wooden.

Ackernman is the student union. Located inside it is the UCLA store, lots of places to eat and such. Wooden is the gym on campus which has a weight room, basketball courts, lots cardio equipment... Any student with a current BruinCard (assuming you've paid your fees) can swipe in to use the facillity.
