A1 Auditions 2019

Hi all! I was just wondering if anyone has heard a yes or a no from the A1 Audition folks for the 2019 auditions? D submitted her prescreen this year and is waiting to hear back. Waiting is the hardest!

I’m hoping that the lack of comments means that no one has heard audition confirmations yet? :">

My D submitted mid October and has not heard back.

I have a friend whose son had been waitlisted for A1s and he just heard yesterday he has come off the wait list. He is a college sophomore.

My D was passed through back near the beginning of October, but A1’s came to the campus- so not a video audition.

I wonder if they are still screening video submissions. My D submitted Oct. 7 and we have not heard yet.

Yes, my S was accepted a month ago but they auditioned at his campus.

My D received a Yes a couple weeks ago. She sent in a video audition.

How does it work for in-person prescreens? My daughter submitted her app today and wants to go to the NYC auditions Nov 9, 10 or 14th, 2018. The site only says midtown manhattan. Will she receive info as to where the auditions specicifcally are after they review her app/headshot/resume?
Do people ever get turned down for an in person prescreen for any reason? Resume, rolling admissions-no more spots left?
Is this just a money maker-do most get appts for January?
Did anyone who did the conference last year get a theatre job?
Thanks!

I know people last year who were shut out of NYC prescreens after they got full, but if memory serves you could no longer submit once that happened

Great questions fancytheatrekid! I was wondering if we should email and ask if we don’t hear anything by the November 15th deadline.

How long did it take your D to hear back from her video submission bfatheatremb? Thanks for all the feedback! This is the first time we have gone through this process.

@fancytheatrekid - I am pretty sure once they are full it will indicate it on the signups. They had an earlier prescreen in NYC already and at some point the signups said wait list only. Up until that time I believe everyone got a spot for a prescreen. Since the audition is this weekend, I would guess your D will hear from them soon regarding a time slot and location. All of my Ds friends received their timeslots a week or two ago. I don’t know the % but not everyone that does a prescreen gets an audition in January and if you don’t get a January audition, they refund 100% of your money. My D didn’t not get a spot last year and I know others who did not either.

My D heard back after a couple weeks. This is her first time sending in a video for prescreens. She was very excited to get a YES. She has friends though that still have not received an answer.

My daughter completed her application way back in September, but just submitted video for prescreen. I believe facebook said they are up to 2,000 applicants? Not great odds, and makes me wonder if this is just a great moneymaker for them. Wondering how many students will actually book summer gigs?

@duxellen As they return the money of those who don’t pass through, not sure about a money maker? They only have room for so many in the 4 days. I know students who booked from A1’s last year.

My son booked a summer stock gig from A1s last year, but A1 conducts auditions at his college so no prescreen and a fairly immediate audition slot. Plus he was a senior with open-ended summer availability, and I’d wager A1 is looking for a balance between undergrads and soon-to-be graduates.

True- they do return the money, which is fantastic! Just seems odds are stacked against you with soooo many applicants! My daughter sent in a video prescreen- in person usually always a better option, so who knows if she’ll get a slot. Just want her to book summer stock …somewhere! Seems so competitive!!

My daughter got a spot with A1 today from the in-person auditions in NYC. About time for a little good news! College freshman

@mthldy Have you heard back yet?
