About making a Math Club

I am considering to make a math club at my school. But I have no idea how to start, what to do, etc. Any recommendations from those who are in a math club or is a president of the club? I was thinking to study for the AMC, math competition in London, SAT Math I and IIC, and for the math competition tournament. Am I on the right track?? Please tell me everything about math club…!!!

thank heaven I got to a normal school where there is no math club

I suppose they are different everywhere, but that sounds like a good start. Usually, you can talk to your GC about it and if it's possible, they will assign some faculty member (or someone will volunteer) to help. Sometimes it's difficult however, if your school doesn't have a lot of funding.

thanks for that information.. but how's your school math club? Do u know anything about it?

My school's math club competed in some Math Bowls (just for fun, with local schools..that's definitely something you can organize) and a few years ago made a Math Mag with "fun" articles about math.
You can also go around singing and performing tricks for Pi Day lol or make a fair, who knows, just have fun.

LOL sounds fun to me.. thanks!

Well here's how it happens at my school:

You find a willing faculty member to be the advisor of the club. They don't need to do anything; they just need to be there for legal reasons. Then you inform the advisor of the student organization (or whatever it's called --COSA, S.O, student government) that you want to start the club and already have an advisor. She'll probably then give you a sign up sheet in which you'll probably need 10 signatures from willing members. Once this has happened, she'll okay it and find you an empty room to have meetings in. If you need money to start the club, you can have members give donations or fundraise.

Definitely do Pi Day. We had a pi recital competition that was fun. This girl won tickets to Lion King for memorizing 306 numbers of Pi.

Many are just for fun; they aren't too serious.

don't forget about e day! (febuary 7th)

what's e-day??? :|

what? come on it's e! 2.71(continues).

god sorry.. didn't know that really

really you need to get acquainted with pi's lesser known brother

Ahh e stabs calculus repeatedly :D

lol. . .I was thinking about making a math club at my school, then I think one girl beat me to it. . .except at the first meeting, nobody went except for her and the advisor. . .

It's really sad when that happens! If you join a club, go to the meetings...and if you start a club, bring food so people will come.
