PS: UCB math major

i always here that for the last semester you are at your CC, you can’t drop below a 3.0 for that semester (not cumulative GPA). So if those are the only 2 classes you are taking then no.

Umm, one B and one C average out to under a 3.0, so yes.

Furthermore, they may require more of you than the usual 3.0 during your last term; sometimes they request specific grades in your classes.

yes I know the required GPA is 3.0 or above in the last semester , but my overall GPA is 3.94 by now even though I get one B and one C in this semester , maybe I will still satisfy the GPA admission requirement of UCB ,and i think my major is not a impact one, so will they give me another chance?? Or rescind me for sure??

The GPA requirement in the provisional contract applies only to the last term, not your overall college career, meaning that you will have to make sure your spring GPA is above a 3.0; however, if you took winter classes as well, they should look at your combined GPA from winter and spring. Basically, all grades since your application update was submitted.

As far as whether they will for sure rescind you, it’s not exactly guaranteed to happen, but do you really want to take that chance? I’m sure there have been cases where people were not rescinded for dropping below the GPA requirement, but from what I understand, Berkeley is generally very strict when it comes to this. The contract should say something along the lines of, “if you fail to meet any of these conditions, contact us immediately.”

Anyhow, unless you have a very good explanation as to why you did not meet the requirements in the contract, I would suggest you do whatever it takes to improve one of those two grades. If you’ve maintained an excellent 3.94 GPA so far, I’m sure you can manage to pass an English course with a B. Don’t throw away all your hard work because of one class.

One of my friends here received a 2.9 last year and got into Cal…Yes, Berkeley is strict, but if you get a B and a C, you probably won’t get rescinded. That said, still do your best and try to get 2 B’s :p. You don’t want the excess stress.

As strange as it may seem to you, English is the most important and heavily weighted GE course for math majors (discounting courses such as calculus-based physics or computer science), and in fact most other majors. There’s a reason why Berkeley requires engineers who do not take the IGETC sequence to take three English courses; also, it is a general UC requirement to complete English courses satisfactorily.

I was formerly of the opinion that English was impractical to me as a math major; but after speaking to visiting UC department and admissions representatives at my CCC, my mind completely changed. Do your best to get the ‘B’ - speak with your instructor during office hours on a regular basis; seek out opportunities for essay revisions or extra credit; etc.

ok…my GPA by now is 3.94 and suppose that I get one B and one C in this semester , but my overall GPA is still 3.7 above.
Suppose that I have a friend who has a 3.7 GPA before this semester and he is also admitted by Cal , and he get two B’s in this semester ,he will not be rescind ,right?
But actually if he get two B’s in this semester , his overall GPA will be lower than mine…but he is safe ,and I will be rescind …I think it is not fair to me

doesnt matter if the cum. GPAs are different - your hypothetical friend would have met the conditions of admission because he wouldn’t be getting below a 3.0 for this individual spring semester…so how is that not fair? if you do not meet the conditions for admission they will probably rescind you. do your best to get that B.

yes i will try to get B’s , thanks very much
But what if I really do not meet the condition of admission. will they rescind me for sure Or maybe they will give me a chance to appeal??
i have heard that many students do not meet the condition of admission but still get in …what is my chance?

you can’t really know until you call them. right now youre in a position to prevent yourself from getting that grade…speak to your teacher about your situation and find out what you can do to bring your grade up.
