Absence Rumorsss

there is this huge rumor going around that high schools send to colleges how many times you've been absent during high school. IS THIS TRUE?!

Uhm I doubt it. Why would they? That's not there job too.

Well, generally (at least at my school) it's included in your transcript. Your number of absences or tardies will most likely not affect a school's decision, but if it is excessively high, some questions might be raised about how dedicated/responsible you really are as a student. Now, if for example you were really sick and had to miss two weeks of school or something, they will not hold it against you. They're more concerned with unexcused absences or tardies. If they have questions, they will usually call your school to find out what is up.

Yes, they do show absences on the transcripts that are sent to colleges.

Why would it matter? And what do you mean by "huge rumor"? Either way, people shouldn't be worried unless they play lots of hooky.

Ya, absences are generally on your transcript. Really shouldn't be a huge deal though unless you ditched every day.

Would detentions be on your transcript, because i go to a Catholic school and I've gotten three for dumb reasons that honestly I don't think colleges would care much about:

1) untucked shirt(uniform)
2) forgot gym uniform
3) late to school (like 5 minutes) and i told them it was a family emergency and i still got one

yeah, thatd be horrible if that affected my admissions, considering generally my teachers love me, i do comm service and am active in the school, i get good grades, in NHS, but these could make me look bad.

at my school, absences arent on your transcript.

therefore, i missed 25 days last semester.

Is it really such a big deal?

I'm pretty sure absences are printed on our school transcripts. No skipping for me! Although they aren't very accurate. Last year I was a church mouse in my 1st period photo class, and subsequently I was marked "absent" like 9 times that year by my deaf idiot of a photography teacher! (I was really present every day!).

absents aren't included in my school's transcripts. just the marks.

no one has any idea about the detentions?

I don't know but I would hope detentions are on there so they know about the kid's character as well.

yes but i dont think these detentions are an indication of my character, so if they are on there they better have the reasons as well.

It really depends. My old school was similarly strict about uniform, being late, etc, and even not having homework = detention. I'm pretty sure they just threw out the dentention slips two days after (if you got two in two days = suspension), b/c my brother got at least one a week for four years and got into columbia

I got a detention junior year for being three minutes late to math class... I hardly think that's any indication of my character.

Ha ha. I would think otherwise. If you're always tardy or absent and still maintain a perfect GPA and high test scores, maybe colleges will take that as a positive characteristic.

at my school...detentions they say don't go onto transcripts, but saturday schools do. saturday school equivalent to...2 detentions? 3? yea i don't think some dententions are fair....like forgetting to clear your absense because of a doctor's appointment or something.

Does it matter to colleges??

I miss around 7 days a semester for student government. And if absences do matter, then I'm screwed haha.

I don't think detentions would be on a final transcript. Maybe suspensions, but not detentions -- those are really common and not very indicative of character (unless if it's repeated, and usually, that person gets suspended at times).
