Absolutely no idea what to do. PLEASE HELP

So I really wanted to go to NYU my senior year in high school. Now I'm at my CC and want to transfer. My dream school all summer and last semester was GWU/AU. Up until a few weeks I've had some changes in my life and decided I really would like to stay in NY so now I really want to go to Columbia.

I applied to NYU and Fordham my senior year and didn't get in then.

I want out of my CC asap. I have a pretty good shot for transfer at NYU for next Fall but not for Columbia and my high school stats won't help me. I am now thinking that if I get accepted to Fordham or NYU for next Fall to go there and then apply to Columbia as a junior transfer.

That way I can get more credits which will hopefully take some more weight off my HS stats and I could get a few internships that could add on to my resume. I have a few contacts I could use for Columbia but I think it would stupid to use them now when I know I'm not a strong enough candidate. I have 30 credits, 3.9 GPA a few leadership positions and other clubs including PTK.

Does it make sense to go to NYU or Fordham and then transfer to Columbia? Does that look bad? I know transfer essay's are about WHY you want to transfer. What will I say if I want to apply for junior year? I went from a CC to NYU and now I want to go to Columbia?

First off, transferring in order to transfer again isn’t really the way to broach the transfer process. You should try to treat your first transfer as if it is your last transfer–meaning, if you get into only Fordham or only NYU (or both!), you should try to imagine yourself at either for the rest of your college career. If you’re still not happy once you get to either of those schools, THEN and only then can you mention transfer again. But in all honesty, transferring is about finding what works. Give yourself the chance to like NYU or Fordham–you might be pleasantly surprised!

Right I understand what you’re saying but I really want to do International Relations and from what I hear and know DC schools are pretty much the best for that or Ivy and Columbia even though they do not have that major have a 5 year program B.A in Political Science and then M.A in International Affairs from SIPA. Also Columbia has a whole institute dedicated to the study of Human Rights and that’s exactly what I want to do. Major in Political Science and Human Rights and go on from there. Unfortunately NYU’s IR program is limited/honors and nobody is guaranteed a spot. I would love to go to Columbia but I know I’m not a competitive candidate as of now but I hope that I can improve and move on from there. However, I really really do not want to stay at my CC much less at home.

Should I even apply to Columbia right now? I feel like I just take a shot at it but I don’t want to use my contacts if I know I’m not competitive enough for them and I’m 99% sure I wont get in.

I would apply to Columbia–the worst they could do is deny you. You can always apply again down the road. And I’ll be honest, I’m a transfer candidate as well. I go to school in DC, and while academically, it’s a phenomenal place, I’m not happy there. You seem to know exactly what you want from your college experience, which is important, but just remember, it’s not all about the academics! You have to like the school as well!

I have talked a few people and all of them are telling me to go ahead and apply to Columbia and use my contacts. If not now, I can always ask them later. I hope that’s not a problem.

Does it look bad as a in my case I guess I’d be a double transfer or a triple transfer?
How bad does that look?
