Abstract or summary of reasearch?

On the northwestern supplement, they ask:

If you have done any research or independent study outside of school, please include an abstract or summary of your work.

I work as a research assistant at a hospital over my sophomore summer. I helped plan and carry out multiple studies for the anesthesiology department which involved interviewing patients and collecting and analyzing data.

Is this a legitimate thing to write about? How in depth should I go? How long should it be?
NOTE: I got a rec. from the head of the anesthesiology department which was absolutely glowing.... if that means anything....

Thanks guys

EDIT:: Ughhh... I know, theres an error in the title.... gimme a break, I've been writing college essays without much break since we got out from school for break....

I'd write about it, quite in depth if you can.

A related question, because I don't want to open another thread.

I did a sort of research project in Biology the summer before and the first part of my senior year. I counted it as an EC because it was not related to my Biology class and I joined just because I wanted to. However, it was run by my Biology teacher and sponsored by the school. Does it count as 'outside of school'?

Also, this year I am taking a gap year. I enrolled part time at a local university and I have joined the research group of a professor. Again, does it count as 'outside of school'?

Anybody???
