AC Transit

Hey everyone!

I've always been quite unfamiliar with the bus routes on campus, and I was wondering if anyone could just let me know about the major bus routes? I looked at the map online, but it obviously doesn't tell you information like "take this bus route to get to trader joe's" or "take this bus to emeryville"

would someone mind filling me in on what major bus routes cal students typically use (let's say starting at sproul)

thanks and much appreciated!

51B is a popular one, and the one I take most often.

The best way to do this, though, is to select your destination, and enter it along with Sproul as the starting point on Google Maps, and selec the “public transport” option (blue bus icon.) Google lists a lot of options, not just (but along with) AC Transit. <3

This is a dumb question, but are AC transit & Bear Transit unrelated?

Yep. AC transit is the county’s public bus service (short for Alameda County) and Bear Transit is Berkeley’s bus service, only for students and staff I think?

Hey OP,

I am an “AC Transit expert.” I’ve been taking the AC Transit buses since middle school, and I am now going to be a 3rd year at Cal (I grew up in the area). So, I hope I can help.

1 and 1R: Those buses have the SAME route, except that the 1R is the rapid bus, and has less stops. They drive on Telegraph all the way to downtown Oakland, then they take Broadway. Finally, they International all the way to Bayfair Mall. So, if you want something on Telegraph, these buses will be extremely useful!

51B: This bus runs along University Ave, Bancroft, and then College Ave to the Rockridge Bart station in Oakland. After that, you have to get off and transfer to the 51A if you want to go to downtown Oakland along Broadway or Alameda.

52: UC Campus. This bus line runs mainly through San Pablo, University Ave, Bancroft, and Hearst Ave. So, if you have somewhere to go to around there, this is your bus.

F: This is our transbay bus, which can take you to S.F with you Cal ID for free. This bus runs mainly through Shattuck and then Market St. in Oakland. Then it goes through Emeryville where you can go to Bay St to the movies, food, etc.

65 and 67: You can take either one of these buses if you want to go to Tilden Park located in the Berkeley Hills.

I hope I helped not only you, but anyone new to our bus system.

btw, I did not use the internet to help me with the routes! I have taken all these buses multiple times. Also, AC Transit is short for Alameda AND Contra Costa County. AC Transit serves both counties, so that is what the “C” means.

thank you so much for your help everyone :)

@kape1one, could you explain the 49’s route and the 25A and 25B? I never understood those despite growing up in Berkeley and going into my 4th year…
