Academic Dishonesty and transferring

I am a freshman at a large university. in one of my classes we have these clickers that we answer questions with in class and this determines if we were in class and our class participation grade. I was unexpectedly booked a flight home to see my dad cause he has been a little sick and was worried about my participation grade. So i gave my clicker to a friend and he clicked in for me. we ended up getting caught and I don't know the consequences that will be brought against me yet. Obviously i feel really bad about this because it was such a small thing and wasn't really worth being dishonest about and I have definitely learned my lesson. Before this happened i was looking to transfer sometime in the future possibly next year, will this incident prevent me from transferring at all?

Also when the professor inquired if I was in class and if I had committed this act I took complete responsibility and did not try to fight it.

It depends. In this case, I think the school will probably just put you on probation considering it’s a pretty minor offense (and first time offense, at that).

Honestly, it might hurt you when it comes to transferring (at least if you use the Common App) because I noticed there’s a question for academic advisers regarding student’s disciplinary history.
