Academic renewal and grade replacement

I recently submitted my application as a transfer student to UC. I am a community college student at Los Angeles City College, back in fall 2011 I took a political science course which I failed. I retook a political science course Summer 2012 at El Camino College which is equivalent to the one I had previously failed and got an A. I thought the A would automatically replace the F, that is why on my UC application I entered both grades but on the A I put as academic renewal. My counselor recently told me that in order to make up a class I had to take it in one of the schools within our district, El Camino is considered out of the district. Therefore, I would have to file for academic renewal but would not be able to do so until fall 2013 because I need to wait two years after I failed to file for academic renewal. Since I submitted my application already does that mean I applied with an F or does the UC system give me credit for the class i retook? Is my application automatically dismissed or can I still be considered for admission? PLease help me!!! What can I do?

UCR
UCM
UCD
UCI

The class may not be “replaced” in the eyes of your current CCC but for the UCs it is. I dont know why you put academic renewal on the app though, you were supposed to enter the f for the old class and the a for the new class.

You were supposed to report the F and the A the way they appear on your transcripts. The F would have been replaced by the A when the UCs calculated your GPA. All that AR does is to make your transcript look prettier, it doesn’t actually affect how your GPA is calculated by the UCs.

Another question about academic renewal:

Last month (Jan. 2013), I did academic renewal on one class. I wrote about this change on the comments section of the Transfer Academic Update we had to submit in January; I included my newly computed GPA there too. I also mentioned this on the Berkeley update application. Additionally, I emailed UCLA about this, and they replied saying they were acknowledging the change.

My question is: Would mentioning this change on the comments for the Transfer Academic Update be enough for the other UC’s? Or should I try to contact them individually like I did with UCLA?

Thanks.

You probably should contact the individual UCs, especially if you want your GPA calculated correctly.
