So I’m looking to transfer to UC Davis for Fall '18 as an English major. I’ll, of course, be applying this fall, and attempting TAG, but I realized, thanks to a very difficult Fall '16, I put my TAG acceptance in jeopardy with C’s that dragged down my GPA. Long story short, I went to a different community college four years or so ago, had a crappy semester then for other reasons, and received very unsavory grades. One of these grades is a C, the rest are C’s and D’s, but one C in particular happens to be UC transferable. If I get the grades I intend to get this year, I will fall .02 short of filing TAG successfully.
Unless I request academic renewal for the previous college? I am not sure how that works. But I calculated my GPA without that particularly bad semester and it helps my UC Transferable GPA /a bunch/.
I’m not sure how I go about this, or if it will even be accepted in terms of filing a TAG in September or for admission into UC’s at all. Guidance, please?
If a college has AR they all have different rules. Some let you pick and choose courses; others will wipe out a whole semester regardless of grades. That’s the only way I can see you possibly getting rid of a C grade. You need to find out what the policy is at that previous college.
Great! So you have to file the forms that are somewhere on the previous college’s website. You can email them for specifics and when it goes into effect. Congrats! Once it goes through, you simply put the college and courses into the UC application and for grade you write AR.
Question regarding “Exceeds maximum timeframe” at local CC.
I have 2 F’s in Humanities from 2002 and 2006 from another F in Psych 21 for not properly withdrawing before the deadline. I went back to school in 2013 and I have been on an EdPlan was making progress until this past semester. Since I have taken a lot of remedial math courses to get up to college level requirements I have racked up my units. My last math course is planned for this Winter 2018 and Stats 50 will follow in Spring.
Since I am attempting to transfer into a CSU this fall 2018, I have been communicating with my Counselor and devising a way to get out of CC asap. However, she recommends I retake the Humanities to increase my GPA and suggested that I request Academic renewal for the Psych 21 course. This is where I have questions from a FinAid perspective.
Since I only need 3 course to transfer (Math/Stats/Anthro5), I am wondering if retaking courses will be a bad mark against me considering the fact that I have already lost FinAid due to exceeding max time/attempted units.
My Counselor says that my SAP appeal should be approved as long as I include the courses she suggests I retake (to boost GPA) on my new EdPlan. I am not certain if that will fly with the appeal board. I believe I remember the FinAid advisor snickering when I brought up the subject last time, saying that was not a good move from FinAid point of view.
Main Questions: If I retake that same Humanities course, will it cancel out both F grades from my previous failed attempts, or will it only serve to exclude one of the F grades? Would you recommend students retake courses for GPA boost or avoid if possible?
