Hi there guys. I’m a second year CC student in a college in the bay area. I want to apply for tag next year but heres the deal. I took pre cal and got a D and then repeated it twice and got Ds again due to foolishness. Basically have 3 Ds in it. I did good in my other classes (Bs and As )I’m majoring in Computer Science and it is not a requirement for my major. I asked the math departments Head to clear the pre req and allow me to take calculus 1( im doing good in it as im actually paying attention and studying for it and hopefully will pass with a good grade). Now the thing is that the 3 D grades have my gpa to a 2.2( without them it is a 3.25) and to TAG to UC Davis i need a 3.2. I can apply for Academic renewal in this summer as a year will have passed and i will be done with more than 15 required units. I have 4 W grades (2 in ged classes which i didn’t even need to take). The tag page says that no grade less than C is acceptable. My question is that won’t academic renewal negate the 3 Ds from my GPA, thus won’t count towards my transferrable courses? Will it allow me to Fulfill my tag agreement as technically the 3 Ds wont be transferred ? And lastly how much will it and my W grades affect my transfer chances to places lile UC Irvine/ San Diego if i keep getting good grades and not drop classes?

Appreciate any help
Thank you !!
I believe your D grades can be AR’d and won’t count in GPA. I believe Precalc is a UC nontransferable course. Ws don’t affect your transferability. There may be campus specific conditions to meet so please be aware of all the rules. You need 30 UC transferable units by the end of Summer to be able to TAG the following September.

Ill make sure to meet Davis’s prereqs and gpa and not drop anymore classes.
Thank you for your help!!
I would like to find out how academic renewal worked for you with a UC since I am helping a friend with the same issue. Can you omit certain grades from CC transcript and not other’s? How does that work with the UC you are transferring to. Also, Pre-Calculus is a transferrable class to the UCs. Check assist.org
@davisgirl Some precalc classes prior to a certain year and depending on what was covered, were not transferable but yes most look like they are now transferable. Recently course names were changed and realigned to meet the new CID structure.
You cannot omit certain grades on your transcripts to UCs. You must report all classes and if you’re granted AR, then you enter the units but not the grade.

How do you apply for academic renewal if you are not returning to the college?
Each CC has its own process. Check at your CC.
What my friend’s DD did 2 years ago in Orange County was, she took the same class at CC#2 and then filled out an AR form at CC#1 plus sent transcripts from CC#2 to CC#1. This removed the old grade on CC#1 transcript with the notation that AR with course at CC#2 was used to remove the old grade. When transcripts were sent to UCs, CC#1 showed AR used, with units transferred, but not the grade.
