Academic Renewal vs. Request for a Higher Grade

What's the difference? I took a Precalculus in my first college and got a D. I took a Precalculus in a different college for a B. I requested a transcript for B-college to be sent to D-college. What's the difference? I know that the better grade should be counted for my GPA but my D will be noted. Anything else?

Was college 1 a university and not a CCC? Or are both CCC’s?

I don’t think there’s any tangible difference assuming both are from CCC’s. Since the B would replace the D, that Calc grade will be viewed as a B…even though adcoms can still see the D. Academic Renewal would do the same thing.

Yeah they’re both CC. That’s what I thought. I just wanted some clarification because when I came up to records office and mentioned Academic Renewal, they said that’s not what I need/want, that it is a Request for a Higher Grade.

The higher grade is for when you re-took the course for a higher grade

AR is when you are over the class and have no plans to re-take it, so instead you petition for AR to dismiss it from your GPA

lol yeah this was an interesting question you posed! I had to really think it over. Had you not retaken the class, AR would be the way to go. But since you did, you may as well just go with the Request for the Higher Grade.

So on the UC app do u not include the old grade that’s been () thru AR? Cuz it doesn’t count in ur GPA? I actually retook the class but the school was able to exclude it from my GPA cuz its been over 2years.
