What can you guys tell me about the academic rigor at UCLA?
I've been reading the Berkeley forum and it sounds like competition is extreme... is it the same at UCLA?

By the way, I'll be majoring in Political Science...

Well, UCLA is rigorous, let's just make that clear. However, I wouldn't necessarily attribute the rigor to competition. At any school, of course there will be pressure to do well among your peers, but I don't think the competition is so extreme that it'll drive you insane or something. Even pre-meds, who usually get this reputation, aren't extreme in the sense that you probably are thinking. In your case, with poli sci, I don't envision anything too drastic. Just come in with the mentality that this is college, and high school work simply won't cut it anymore.

well ill tell you as a poli sci major the most intense thing will be getting the classes you need :)
poli sci is the most impacted north campus major in my opinion

namaste,

That'd be biz-econ...or maybe communication.

bandislife,

You'll be fine.

Yes, don't worry so much. :-)

id say Cal is cutthroat, based on what my friends there tell me. UCLA is rigorous, but i haven't met anyone who is cutthroat. not yet anyways.

The rigor as a political science major at UCLA is not as bad as it seems. Just do what you are supposed to, and you can get by with at least a B+ average. If you are really dedicated to your school work, an A- average is not TOO hard. Just ask UCLAri. He graduated with something like a 3.7 GPA. :yikes:

It really depends on what you do with yourself while you're at UCLA. I mean, I took a lot of hard classes because I was interested in them. But yeah, I think that at least a B+ is easy, an A- is doable, and a 4.0 or close to it is definitely possible if you're willing to give up your social life.
