I received a nomination a couple of days ago from my represenatative and I was just wondering if it is likely that I will now be accepted into the academies or have there been cases in which a candidate has received a nomination, but has not been accepted into the academy regardless of having received a nomination? Thanks in advance!

you must be 3Q (aka qualified academically, physically, medically). Otherwise, your nomination becomes useless.
Study now! :D

Take a look at the entering profile for class of 2014:
[United States Military Academy at West Point](http://www.usma.edu/Class/2014/profile.asp)
You’ll see that 4,151 applicants had a nomination, 2,342 were qualified and 1,375 were admitted. So it is possible to have a nomination and not be offered an appointment.
