Acceptance/Denial Letter

Rumor had it that Letters of Acceptance or Denial were to be mailed out to candidates by April 15th....

As of today April 24, have yet to hear from either USNA or USAFA of status.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Would just like to know before graduating.... :)

Yikes! Well, your nerves have to be totally raw. Can't say about this year but last year son got the "thin" envelope from USNA on April 17 but got the "big" envelope to USMMA on April 27. Surely, you'll hear something this week. Good good luck! Don't forget to breathe!

We just found out this morning that my son's rejection was sent out February 24 and was apparently LOST IN THE MAIL!!!! If you have not received anything yet, you'd better call admissions. We could have put this to bed 2 months ago! Save yourself the agony and call today.

Call your RD. I called last Tuesday to find out. She told me the appointment had been mailed on the 10th of April...it finally got here on the 21st.

My first response to her was..."You mean I got in?!?!"

We still haven't gotten a rejection from USNA, but were told by BGO that son was rejected - just no letter yet. USAFA letter came out at the beginning of the month.

I never got an official notice from the AFA regarding my admissions status. My only way of knowing was my medical waiver denial which i guess is the official no. My ALO said the same thing so i guess they are just saving trees.

usna never told me no [edit - Mod JEM]

^ haha!

last night i accepted the fact that i may never recieve a yes/no from usma, and i opened applications for 2011 at usafa and usna... if i dont get into usma next year, ill go anywhere :)

taffy,

Don't give up hope yet!

the stereotype of the military being anti-gay?

Rum, sodomy and the lash.

it is may 6th and I still havn't gotten an admit/reject letter from USMA... Is this good or bad? I'm like fourth alternate so I guess theyre working their way down the list to me... according to mark houston, 2 of the people above me are not medically qual while the other 2 are. im figuring the first one sat on it a while, then it moved to the second person in line, they sat on it a little and passed, now its gotten to the medically DQ peopel and usma is scrambling to get us qualified? I am DQ but thats cause they havnt attempted to get me a waiver yet... USMMA and USCGA both waivered me. I'm calling mark houston when he gets back from duty on the 8th, but what do you guys think is going on?

If you have not been rejected yet, then you still have a shot. I also expect that they would not have invited you for the overnight visit only to reject you. I just thought that those visits were only for the candidates that received appointments or were about to. You'll need to speak to somebody more official than a cyber service academy parent, though.

Have you been placed on the NWL yet? Is there anyone else in Admissions you could speak with? Taffy, the good news is that they would have rejected you by now if that was their plan. And even a rejection is not final. Note nicksmom recent post that Nick received an appointment after his rejection letter to AFA.

I would definately contact admissions at this point. My son's guidance counselor called USNA on April 24th, because he had not heard anything. We were told by parents who have kids at the Academy that he was probably being considered as an alternate and would hear after May 1. This however, was not the case. He was told over the phone in his counselor's office that he had been rejected February 24th, and the letter was apparently lost in the mail. He has since received two rejection letters as of today, both duplicates of the letter dated Feb. 24th. Nothing like rubbing salt in the wound, huh? Too bad the original was not received two months ago....hard to believe a place like the Academy does not have a system of checks and balances when it comes to making sure these kids have received their rejections, say return receipt?? It could have saved us a lot of false hopes. Also, the Appointee from our Congressional district, turned it down and they went back to the list of nominees and did NOT take anyone else! My son was apparently said to be third on the list according to his BGO, who by the way, never called my son, even though he knew he was rejected back in February...not a word from him. I really hope you have a deposit at another school, just in case. Good luck to you, hopefully you ARE one of those who will get the call any day.

was he triple Q??

He was scholastically and medically Q'd last November. Never heard on CFA, but have discussed w/ others on this site that he would only hear on CFA if his score was not acceptable. So, I'm not sure about that triple Q'd thing. He did not receive an invite for candidate weekend, either, which I heard, if not, it's the kiss off. Can't believe they did not take anyone off the nominee list after the original appointee recinded. Our Congressman's Chief of Staff said that has never happened before in their office. I know you didi ot ask, but, my son is talking about re-applying. He is considering Greystone Prepratory in Texas for a year. It's a relatively new program affiliated w/ Schreiner University. Anyone can apply. It's specifically for those who did not get an appointment to any academy, official prep school or Foundation on their first try. They guy who runs it is a former USNA grad and former USNA instructor. It's different than a foundation school, in that students get college credit that they can apply anywhere, if they do ot get an appointment at the end of the program. The official prep's as I understand, are not colleges. As of yesterday, he is an alternate for NROTC scholarship. They said he may hear next week or as late as June 15th, for sure. He's going to look at Old Dominion after he graduates next week. He has a full scholarship to SUNY Maritime, and offers of admission to RIT and Tulane. He was waitlisted at Nova and RPI. Since he found out so late of his rejection from USNA, and the Navy scholarship is still up in the air, we put deposits at a few schools until he's sure about what he wants to do. Even the best laid plans can backfire. If he's comitted to try again, we'll be there to support him. Are you a mid, parent or recent admit?

JJLMom, we met the head of Greystone at a Navy banquet last winter. He's got a good program going on there, I think. For my son, it was down to there or NMMI. He chose NMMI because of the (alleged!) military aspect. NMMI also earns you college credits. Schreiner is a beautiful campus.

Spidermom, What is NMMI? Is it New Mexico Military Institute? If so, please expound on your "alleged military background", because my son's BEST friend accepted New Mexico Military Institute as a foundation appointment from USMA. He recinded an AROTC scholarship to attend the USMA foundation in the fall. What do you know that he should know?
Thanks for the info on Greysone. We just sat down and talked to our son again tonight about what direction he wants to take now, and he's like a ping-pong ball. He's bouncing all over the place. I really think he's afraid of being rejected a second time from USNA.
