Any new Appointments out there?

Has anybody heard of anyone getting any USNA Appointments in the past few weeks? Seems awfully quiet - plenty of us on the "paitiently waiting" thread but can't recall the last time I saw any "I'm in!" posts....

Is this lull common this time of year? Any chance of a last burst of offers right before the unofficial April 15th deadline? BGO's feel free to give us some hope...

May 1 is rapidly approaching for those of us with backup offers.....getting more nervous for my son everyday that the mail box (and voicemail) remains empty....

From what I remember of last year's appointment cycle...there was a big burst at the end of March and then here and there through the third week of April. A few in May and even a couple in June.

I don't remember this many candidates who hadn't heard by this time last year. I'm not a BGO just an anxious parent like you and I'd love to be a fly on the wall in that admissions conference room. They are probably well aware that most kids have May 1 deadlines elsewhere.

Many alums (including our wonderful BGO) have told my son that they didn't hear until early May and had to rescind their committments at other schools.

As always good luck!

I guess that's a follow-on question ==> Can you resind a May 1 commitment to another Service Academy???? Reprecussions if any? I.e. can you tell the Air Force Academy that you are coming there on May 1, but if you get an Appointment to USNA on say May 15th, tell USAFA "thanks but no thanks"???

^^^^ the answer to that is "NO."

Once you have signed on the dotted line for a service academy, that's it.... even if another service academy offer comes through after-the-fact.

If that is what you are waiting for, then hold out as long as you can....but be sure not to wait too long (ie: after the May 1st deadline).... that would be a disaster.

As for May/June appointments: few and far between. Would not count on one. If you have not heard anything in the days prior to May 1st, would suggest going with Plan B..... make sure you have a safe place to land come September!

My son's BGO told him that until he reports to another SA he can withdraw his acceptance at that academy and accept an appt to USNA. I would check with one of the BGO on this site or the other or call NA.

I got my appointment about two weeks ago. I think I posted it somewhere but what the heck, it's a big deal so here it is again! lol.

Does anyone know when people get thier appointment notices in the mail, how they come? Regular mail, fed ex ? Trying to know what to look for optimisticly.

Regular mail. :) It's a manilla envelope that's the size of a folder.

My dad accepted an appointment to USMA, then ended up going to USAFA. Things might have changed, but he told me that until you report, you aren't locked in.

Interesting danbrenn, as I might be facing a similiar situation in the next month between USMA (accepted) and USNA (havn't heard from yet). That would definently be a relief so I wouldn't feel 'boxed' into one of them, given that I'm still split 50/50 between the two.

I'm have that situation, but with USAFA and USNA.

has anyone found the answer to this? i too am in this situation

answer to w hat.

whether or not you can back out after you accept an appointment to go to another academy

Think a better way to phrase the question would be:

"Can you turn down an accepted appt. to a service academy if you later find out you made it into another?"

I know that it is possible with regular colleges (I am currently holding down a spot at VTech as a backup), but how it works with a service academy I'm not sure.

I just found out my medical waiver was granted. I have an LOA from USNA. I haven't heard from admissions yet but my waiver just came through on 4/7.

We found out the same news today when we returned from spring break The DODMERB site says "Medical waiver Granted".

Hopefully the official news will arrive this week.

A lot of tears and excitement in our house tonight!

Michdad

GO NAVY

Congrats Michdad. We too got some news today in the way of an April 6th letter (delivered today, Mon 9th) announcing we're part of the Wait List.

Now May 1 is looming for our backup plans....can any BG's confirm or deny that if you accept another SA Appointment on May 1, and then if USNA comes thru, back out of it?
