My daughter also received the acceptance letter today which states to look for the official packet by April 1st. Thank goodness she saw on facebook yesterday that these acceptances were arriving as a single letter in a small envelope. She has been thinking that would have been a bad sign. Not sure why they did it this way, perhaps they are still working on financial aid packets and didn’t want the students to accept offers to other schools in the meantime.

Best of luck to all of those still waiting, hopefully some good news will come your way in the next few days.

I received my acceptance today! Honestly, one of the most exciting moments of my life, haha. Such a nice relief to finally be able to see I was accepted.

I hadn’t heard it was a single letter so I opened my mailbox today and there was this huge envelope. I got all excited and then I saw it was just from another school and the excitement was gone. I pulled the rest of the mail out and as I was driving away I spotted the FIT logo on the corner of one of the small envelopes! I was a little worried because all of this time I’ve been really confident about getting in. But, YAY!

Congratulations Futurefit and Julie89!!! It was a very exciting moment here too! And what a perfect day to receive the good news, it’s like summer out there!!

I still have not received my acceptance letter. A while back I looked on my f.i.t. login account at the financial aid status stuff and it was empty. I looked at it again today and things had been added such as a estimated cost of everything and it said I had a loan interview I could complete during orientation week. I’m not sure if this was automatically put on everyone’s but it could be a good sign of being accepted?

Hey congrats to all accepted, can fashion merch majors that were accepted list their stats for reference, please? For example, GPA and SAT plus any EC’s. Thanks.

I applied to FIT as well…
I had a 3.7 gpa & i had my sketches reviewed by one of the admissions officers and he said he was a great portfolio… but i havent gotten any “early” acceptance so I’m getting really nervous…

Well, SATs aren’t considered in the decision process but I have a 3.9 GPA.
Extracurriculars: Student Government, International Club, Amnesty Club, Student Light Club, Mentoring, Book Club, Sewing Club

I was also in a special fashion program at the career and technology center (like a votech center if that helps anyone?) That is mostly what I wrote my essay about. Oh, and I have an independent study which I created in fashion marketing.

What are your stats?

Oh and did anyone else get into the honors program?

Hi…
I wanted to find out about the acceptance letters from F.I.T. I saw that some of you have received your letters…congratulations! I was curious if you live close to NYC or New England? I live in the Midwest and I’m trying to figure out if I’m one of the unlucky ones or if its just a postal thing.

Jenno67, We live in New Jersey and my daughter received acceptance last week. But from what I have seen on Facebook, acceptances are still being received each day, so don’t lose hope.

Futurefit, daughter didn’t apply to honors program but is regretting that she didnt. I wonder if she still may have that option or if its too late? Are there certain classes you must take as an honor student, I know that my oldest daughter (in a different college) had to select from a predetermined set of classes each semester, it was a requirement of the honors program.

My daughter did not apply for the honors program either. We wish that she had now. She was accepted to an honors program in Boston…she’s decided not to attend. F.I.T. is her first choice and if that fails she has been accepted to The Savannah College of Art and Design. We are just keeping our fingers crossed at this point. She took one of FIT’s summer classes and just fell in love with the school and the program. I’ll post back when we hear!

Jenno67, we have alot of similarities. My daughter was also accepted to SCAD, visited in November and loved it. But it is quite a distance and the tuition is obviously much higher than FIT. She also took summer classes at FIT and I have to say I have never seen her happier. She loved everything about it and became even more certain about her choice of major. At this point she is deciding between University of Delaware, which ranks in the top 10 for graphic design programs, and FIT. Her dream school has always been FIT, but the lure of a traditional college campus at UD has her confused between the two.

What classes did your daughter take at FIT, perhaps they were in class together.

My daughter took the summer classes that were at the beginning of August. She took the Costume and Couture Rendering class and loved it. As far as living on a campus like setting she is not too interested in that. She grew up here in Oxford, OH…home of Miami University. It’s a beautiful campus but she really wants more of a city life. I agree that SCAD is so expensive. I love the cost of FIT. Have you heard anyone speak of the two and compare? Savannah is a beautiful area but my husband and I are originally from New England and prefer the North East. The south is nice to visit. Of course, it will be up to her where she wants to go. It would just be nice for her to be close to family and friends. The mail has come and gone and still no word.

Have you visited SCAD, that’s probably the best way to tell if she would be happy in the south? My daughter liked it for her 2 day visit, but admitted to me that the southern charm may get old very quickly. She is also more interested in a city vibe, and has commuted to NYC from NJ for many years for ballet, so I have no doubts about her being in that atmosphere. The other thing I remember about SCAD is that it is not NASAD accredited. That didn’t really matter to us, but may be something to consider.

They weren’t in the same class, mine did two in July in Graphic Design. I remember her mentioning there was a girl from the midwest in her class, that’s why I asked. Did you daughter apply for Fashion Design? I feel your pain waiting for to pounce on the mail each day, hopefully you will have good news soon. By the way, the good news came in a small envelope so don’t panic if you see that.

Im pretty nervous… still havent heard back yet. To me it seems like I can’t focus on anything but my acceptance or dare I say it… rejection. I hope I get in, anyone get in with stats like me (3.4 uw GPA, 4.2 weighted)? I applied to Advertising and Marketing… but the letter has been all that I have been able to think about for the past 3 weeks.

Hang in there collegier, try not to focus on it too much (I know, easier said than done). From what I have seen posted on facebook, there are many more in your position than those who have heard already. The students who have heard so far seem to have recieved the letter that states it was being sent to a small group of students… so the word “small” in that sentence is a good sign, giving reason to believe there must be a larger group of admitted students yet to hear. April 1st only a week from friday, so not too much longer to wait. Good luck, hope you get the letter you are waiting for.

It’s too late to apply for the honors program now, but if she goes to FIT she’ll have the opportunity to apply before her junior year.

As for classes, each semester in the honors program you’re required to take one honors liberal arts course but it takes the place of another requirement. There seems to be a good range of liberal arts courses!

We took the tour of SCAD last spring. It’s very nice but it’s not NYC. I’m curious if anyone has received scholarships from FIT. I didn’t think they gave out many.

I’m not sure if there are scholarships offered to incoming freshman. I know there are a few offered to Honors Program students for study abroad, but those aren’t until you are actually in the school. I would imagine that any financial aid or other awards will come in the larger packet that everyone is waiting for.

Regarding scholarships, I just checked the website and it states the following:

FIT Scholarships, which may carry the name of the donor, are usually awarded to second, third, and fourth-year students who demonstrate need, superior potential to succeed in their major areas, and meet the donor’s requirements for the scholarship. Students must complete the FAFSA each year by the March 1 deadline and must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. Renewal of scholarships is not guaranteed. All recipients must be registered for a minimum of 12 credits and continue to be full-time.

Private support allows FIT to administer more than 250 named scholarships (for both financial aid and academic excellence), over 50 named awards, and more than 100 departmental funds through its fundraising arm, the Educational Foundation for the Fashion Industries.

I applied to Advertising and Marketing with a 3.6 unweighted and a 3.9 weighted. I called yesterday and they said they still have not even reviewed my application for a decision and I applied early enough for priority consideration. Judging from the FIT facebook wall, a lot of people called and got the same response.
If I don’t get in I also applied to SCAD…it’s just three times as expensive as FIT :/
