Any word on when letters will be mailed?

first week of February.

Do they come by email or snail mail? And do you hear if you are not invited to CW, or only if you are invited?

usually by UPS. you will hear at the same time whether or not you are invited.

crazyyak,

I was on here browsing around around cw decision notification time last yer, and if i remember right they had so many app's they had to send the acceptences rush fedex and and the denies snail mail. There was some purely unintentional difference in when people got them.

It was sad though, because a lot of kids figured out they didn't get in when eveyone on here had their accepence letter and they didn't :-/.

But yeah, like someone else said we should know first week of february. ahhhhhhhhhhhh thats getting close. cross your fingers!

good luck to everyone,
Brielin Brown (hopeful)

We can't check online?

I'm pretty sure they are trying to figure out how to not have the whole timing issue that they had last year. Whether or not they do will remain to be seen. They're aiming for a week earlier than last year's letters were sent so that the international students have more time to acquire visas.

And no, it's just a letter. If you get invited, it's a letter in one of those sweet Olin folders.

Does the first week of Feb mean starting Thursday, or next week?

I believe in Allison's blog she says they're aiming for Feb. 3. (I'm so nervous... I don't think I have a chance though.)

If you search this forum, people reported last year's decision on Feb 6th, the first Monday in February. I assume it'll be around Feb 5th this year, the first Monday.

Allison's blog is a good source, but I wouldn't use last year's posts to gauge this year's letters. There were only, I believe, two international students that made it to CW last year, so the whole visa thing wasn't as big an issue. Aside from that, the admissions committee could take significantly more or less time to make final decisions this year. While at other schools the numbers stay about the same, that isn't true for Olin, so the timing is still not constant. Please don't freak out if you haven't gotten your letter on [x] day. It's not worth it.

People have to worry twice...once before candidates week acceptances and then the real acceptances...

It's like having to wait in line twice....

Kamikaze,

to me, this is an opportunity worth waiting in line twice for :-)

My acceptance letter came a little bit late so I had to check online.

-KE

Ehiunno...I was trying to say that Olin was making everyone stress twice...

And kell how do we check online?

Allison's blog as of Friday night:

We are almost finished reviewing your applications!

There’s one final step before we mail out the decisions… The Admission Committee… [cue dramatic music]…

...

You should* receive your decision letter - one way or another - in the first week of February.

*Disclaimer regarding mail service: We have no control over what happens to the letters after they leave our office! While we aim to have a decision in every student’s hands in the first week of February… we cannot guarantee its arrival date!

It wouldn't let me post all of it.

As for "making everybody stress twice," it's not everybody! Most of the applicants (80-85%) will not be invited to CW. The odds are pretty darned long for everybody. It is probably not a bad idea to expect to get the thin envelope in your mailbox this week and be ready to have a wonderful time at another great school for the next four years. :)

I'm surprised they're using snail mail this time. When my daughter, a senior, went through all this, all the important envelopes came via FedEx or DHL.

Good luck to everyone!

I have learned that it is not alwasy best to read things too literally. I wouldn't be surprised if they did FedEx the invitations as they have done for the last few years (always?). There is such a short turn-around between invitations and CW that they might not want them subjected to the vagarities of standard first class mail.

At any rate, as I cautioned above, most of the replies next week will be the thin envelopes via snail mail. :)

So you've been to the blog, eh??

Just to clarify - yes, we do send the Candidates' Weekend invitations overnight (for precisely the reasons mentioned) and all other decisions by "snail mail." I spoke of regular mail in my blog b/c I didn't want folks to expect an email or electronic announcement of their decisions. We still think it's kind of cool to get "real" mail in your "real" mailbox! :)
