For everyone who has gotten accepted for Fall 2013 write down some stuff about your stats to help people who haven't heard back yet know where they lay as far as ability to get in.

Accepted/ Wait listed

GPA weighted/unweighted

Standardized test scores act or sat

Honors/ap classes taken

extracurriculars/ community service

other stuff you think factored in to your acceptance

Four months and still waiting, I’ve been accepted at two other Universities but have my heart set on USF. It is getting to the point of being cruel to not come to a decision after four months, most quality Universities already have.

All IB classes
ACT 25
SAT 1690
Active in sports, lots of CAS hours
We have a 7 GPA system my average is 5
Toured the school in summer

I appear to have four or more Academic Success Factors in the USF academic guidelines chart. Trying to balance between showing genuine interest and excessive contact; I have called multiple times and receive friendly admissions representatives, but the stall tactic is starting to hurt. I have a lot to offer this good school but as much as I want an acceptance, if the answer is going to be no please being kind and come to a decision.

Looking at your previous threads it appears you may be accepted in the honors program at USF then congratulations. I find your response to this thread bit cold by discarding the question it posts. Honestly I am glad for everyone who has been accepted already but this thread is for people wanting to get a better picture of what stats are getting in. It goes without saying honors students are getting in, I just want to know how close I may be, and should I give up waiting for this school.

One contention I have in this grading process is on the Academic Success Factors chart. The GPA seems to carry a lot of weight in the decision process. It does not stand to reason that a person with middle to low ACT & SAT scores would have a 4.0 GPA.

Accepted

Nick, I agree with you about her cold demeanor . If you have a problem posting your stats again, then don’t. But this thread is specifically to help those who have yet to get a discussion get a better gauge of their chances

I don’t do ap… I do the Caribbean equivalent which is CAPE. I do chemistry, physics, math, communication studies and Caribbean studies at cape level. Completed the Caribbean secondary school certificate examinations, obtained 7 grade 1s and a grade 2 . Grade ones in : English literature, English language , Spanish, French, math, chemistry and physics. Grade 2 in geography

If anyone is still waiting on USF I highly recommend the University of West Florida in Pensacola. The admissions staff is extremely friendly and it is a quality school. There is a community of students called ArgoConnect they are a helpful group that makes the transition to their campus much easier.

Future USF hopefuls if you encounter similar painful experiences trying to get in, give UWF a chance its a great alternative.

USF is recognized as a better school than UWF for most fields of study. UWF is in Pensacola…almost in Alabama. Pensacola is about 700 miles from Miami. Keep your fingers crossed for USF admission. USF weighs good grades in rigorous coursework much more than high ACT or SAT scores. USF will take an applicant with a 22 ACT and 4.00 GPA in hard courses over someone with 30+ ACT and GPA less than 3.00. Good luck!

And dont get me started on a school giving out a 4.0 yet the student is only capable of achieving a 22 on ACT; especially since you have multiple opportunities to improve that score. In the last 12 years Ive been transplanted to six different schools due to my parents job and have found out; surprise, surprise, not all schools rate on the same fairness scale. For the last three years my current IB high school is very challenging and gives out honest assessments. Ive seen other schools where the students scores are improved unfairly depending on the wealth and influence of the parents.

What kind of arguments are these??? Lizard I appreciate your defense of USF which notably has some good attributes. But after waiting so long (4 months and growing) for something as simple as a decision, I have to give usf a demerit for this very sad trait I am experiencing. On the other hand, after some looking around, I have found UWF to be a very fine school with modern dorms, good curriculum, friendly staff, and helpful student population. The surrounding city the campus resides on is quite beautiful, near some excellent beaches. This sounds like a nice place to grow for four years. In less than a week Ive already made 5 friends that are going to my new home at UWF.

If anyone experiences similar problems as myself, then give the University of West Florida a chance.

You wont regret it.

PS: Lizard I did like and agree with your recent comment on a different thread to Nikkkkki we have strive to achieve a balance to enjoy our lives but academics need to be your priority

You do know where Pensacola is…right? It is about 700 miles.

Since you have traveled to so many schools you should understand that it is possible for a student to have a 22 ACT and a 4.0. There are so many factors that may influence that person’s score that I feel you aren’t including in your perception. Finances, motivation, intellegence, etc.

Congratulation, on your college decision. I’m happy for you. Everyone, whether they’re a Bull or not, deserves to be excited to go to their school in the Fall.

Buuuuuut…telling people to apply to UWF on a USF forum about 5 days before the national decision date…

It’s unfortunate that USF has left so many perfectly good candidates hanging. I did not experience that. I applied in late October and heard back fairly fast. USF has been nothing but interested in my success so I t’s weird to hear that they’re giving people decisions dates and not holding it’s word. Even though, “they dun goofd”, they are a still a top Florida university…better than UWF.

NickGrad, did you ever get a decision? I’m very curious now!!

(Although a 5 GPA on a 7 point scale by my calculations is around a 2.8, so… IDK. Where do you go to school that they have a 7 point scale, anyway?)
