Acceptance Thread 2014/2018

Found out yesterday that National Merit scholarship will be included in package that will be received early next week (or sooner). Very happy!

My husband called about our Merit kid and was given a “We cannot tell you specifics but can say there were some mistakes and oversights and she WILL receive another package that will have taken into account her semifinalist status” type of answer. We are hopeful that it means the full tuition scholarship is still in place and that she will get it. Fingers crossed. Thanks to Kv for starting this process of checking!

T - happy if I’ve contributed something to helping with the experience. Has your student checked the portal, yet? One of our Ds did, and found a nice acceptance letter and a notification of NM, etc. scholarship award.

Best wishes to all. So sorry for those who have experienced problems.

JUST checked…and yes it says:
“I am also happy to inform you that the Fordham University Scholarship Committee has awarded you the prestigious Semifinalist Scholarship. Congratulations! The Semifinalist Scholarship is an annual full tuition stipend for each year of undergraduate study. It is awarded to students with outstanding academic records who have also been named semifinalists in the National Merit, National Achievement or National Hispanic Recognition competitions. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years, provided that you maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0 each year…”

MUSIC to our ears, for sure!

My s got the same letter as taben1112 - so happy to see it in print with the scholarship offered. Will file FAFSA in Feb. Congratulations to all!!

Sorry if this has been asked but I can’t seem to find the answer…my daughter was accepted (!) but we can’t find any scholarship information online. I did the early FAFSA with SAS which promised an early preliminary award notification. Will this come in the mail? It’s not mentioned at all online in her financial aid account.

Answering my own question - I just called SAS and they will mail them out next week or the following.

I am a National Hispanic Scholar and did not receive the Semifinalist Scholarship from Fordham. I only received the Dean’s Scholarship. I am in the top 5% of my class and have an SAT of 2290 (basically the only things they list as averages for the semifinalist scholarship). Any idea why I was passed up?

Are the merit scholarships noted on the letters? There was no scholarship noted in the letter online My d received a letter with an award from Fordham about a week ago about 3 days after we spoke with SAS. We were unclear if the amount in the mailed letter was merit or aid or a combination. A bit confused

FLstudent…you or your parent should contact your admission rep. That seems odd, perhaps and oversight?
Carb…on her ‘early’ email acceptance there was no mention of any scholarship. After we worked with SAS she received an estimated aid package which included a merit money, though not nearly as much as the Semifinalist merit(and need information which included work study and loan options).
My husband then called Fordham and ‘reminded’ them that she was a semifinalist and asked if they needed more documentation about it. Then…
On the online letter posted today on the portal was the Semifinalist award. Found it when we clicked Status Update above her address on the portal (it is part of the general acceptance letter).

My DD got in!! Her first acceptance. Congrats and good luck to everyone.

There was nothing on the letter today but there were $ awarded in the letter we received about a week ago. I guess that was all needs based?? It is not clearly stated anywhere

I am very confused. 35 ACT. 4.00/4.22 GPA, 1/180 (college-prep Jesuit high school). National Merit Semi-Finalist (Fordham listed as first choice). Excellent essays, ECs, recs, etc. Only received Dean’s Scholarship in my acceptance today. I had my heart set on Fordham, but I will not be able to afford it without the NMSF scholarship. Any advice?

I guess scholarships are more competitive than we expected. My daughter is National Hispanic, 2350 SAT. Still no semifinalist scholarship.

If we didn’t receive any information regarding scholarships in the admission notice on the portal today does that mean we were not awarded a scholarship, or does that information come later?

Can we still get another, bigger scholarship (presidential) if we got offered the deans scholarship or is that the highest one we got?

Semifinalist and National Hispanic folks – send an email to your regional admissions rep. That is likely an error.

Presidential Scholarship is the top 20 or so acceptances – those candidates are generally number 1 or 2 in their high school class and have top standardized test scores. In the past, Presidential was not announced until April 1. Nothing is for sure, for anyone, but UDJ111’s stats are the kind of thing that gets someone considered for that one. UD, I would think you would receive the full-ride Jesuit Scholarship.

If you have not already received one, the Personal Information Profile, or PIP, will soon arrive and include need-based aid, if you have filed the preliminary FAFSA.

I received my PIP a few week ago: $26,000 or so. Clearly, there seems to be no significant (NMSF or greater) scholarship in there.

Here the weird thing – My college counselor contacted the admissions rep last week with all my stats/info. While they were on the phone, he happily nominated me for all of Fordham’s scholarships (according to my counselor). I’m just confused about this whole deal. I figured I was a shoe-in with a 35, #1 in college-prep Jesuit, 2 800 SAT IIs, 3 5 APs, great recs, ecs, and essays. I have planned on going to Fordham for the past few months, hardly giving it a second thought. Now I may need to reconsider.

On a slightly different note, I have received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy (no tuition, obviously). Maybe I could show that to Fordham. Also, I’m getting my SAT scores back in 11 days (I think I did very well); so, maybe that could also have an effect. Does anybody know if Fordham ever “bumps up” scholarships?

Finally, I’d like to mention that I’m more than grateful to be in the position I’m in (Dean’s scholarship, etc). However, I cannot pay $20,000+ per year to attend Fordham, especially when I want to become a doctor (med school = a lot more $$$).

I’ll talk to my college counselor tomorrow, but any extra information here would be appreciated.

UDJ111 – It’s just a paperwork mistake, not a matter of bumping you up. No need to get out the full arsenal. Just send an email to your rep, and it will be corrected. : ) They will send a corrected PIP, as well.

Congrats on your acceptance to the Naval Academy, as well.

KvotheFan – I really hope it works out. I’ve been pretty stressed, but there’s nothing I can do right now. Congratulations to you and your daughter!
