Acceptance thread for 2010 class

wow, rejected. kinda discouraged. but i'll move on. i guess it wasn't ment to be. bye cuse.

nooo.........i liked u....do u kno why they rejected u??

wannagotocornell, what were your stats and what was your proposed major?

Personally, I think you got caught up in what happened last year. Last year, too many freshmen accepted Syracuse. They had to lower their admission rate this year.

hey, i wanted to meet you too! :(

i guess that it didn't help that i applied to the art school. lol. it could have been that i turned in my portfolio a week late ( i didn't know it took that look and cost so much to make slides, wasted all that money.) and my councelor turned my mid year report at the end of january. or maybe my portfolio was bad, i don't have much experience in art, just interested in it. but i don't know. stats: 4.0 uw and w. 24/250 - top 10%.

v-600, m- 710, w- 610. major- interior design. ecs and stuff.
minority, but that didn't help me at all this time. lol.

If you have been accepted or rejected to Syracuse, please list whether you were accepted or rejected and your:

1 History
2. 620V 600M 650 W 9e
3. 3.0 unwieghted
4. 8th decile
5 Mahwah New Jersey
6. Yearbook Editor, President of Young Politicians Club
7. i wrestle play football and lacrosse. i'm a yearbook editor as well as in the school play.
8. would have gone, but i was rejected. i don't see how. people with worse SAT's got into seemingly tougher school( like a kid with 500's in all three SAT categories getting into computer science.)

WannagotoCornell, you seem to have strong stats. I think that they may have rejected you thinking that you will go somewhere else. Syracuse is tired of being second fiddle.

If you are REALLY interested in Syracuse, call up the admission's office and ask them what the problem was since kids were getting in with lower stats. Emphasize your interest in the school.

Cruzx19, Syracuse is very GPA oriented. Some schools may make exceptions for decent SATs but not Syracuse.

wow taxguy.......how do you kno these things??? youre like the wizard of oz......

Melo, I've been lurking on this tread and I've got to say you crack me up. :)
My son got into Newhouse last week and I know he'd love to meet you. He's still waiting to hear from some other schools but SU is his dream school.

I don't have his stats committed to memory (I can't ask because he's in Boston this weekend for a St. Pat's Day Irish punk concert), but here's what I recall:

SAT: 1990 (Not sure how it breaks down, but I know he got a 12 on his essay which had to help w/ Newhouse. V,M and W were all well balanced)
GPA: 3.9, give or take.
Rank: 40-something/500+ in one of VA's top public high schools -- Time Magazine's HS of the Year a few years ago)
Misc: Anticipated IB diploma candidate, Principal's Honor Roll 11, 12. Grades definitely trended upward, which is always good. Very strong mid-year report.
Great Recommendations, though we didn't see them.
IB HL English teacher said he wrote a great essay.
ECs: Marching band, Concert Band, wind ensemble, pit orch for school musicals. Lots of band honors -- the usual band geek stuff. :) Lots of IB community service hours. Interesting volunteer work. NHS.

When he interviewed last year, the counselor was very impressed with his transcript and the rigors of the IB program. Honestly, that's his best hook.

Melo, I was the one who wrote the "overview of our visit to Syracuse," which is found in this forum. I really did an indepth review of the school.

Wannagotocornell, I didn't know that you were applying to the art school, which my daughter applied to as well. The portfolio is VERY crucial. Super SAT scores and GPA won't offset a mediocre portfolio. Moreover, if it was turned in late, that could be the problem.

I see lots of great kids, with terrific credentials, blowing the whole college process. They kowtow to the pressure of being accepted somewhere and apply ED and then didn't get the scholarship that they wanted. They turn their application or supplementary materials late, or they don't check to see if the schools have received all the necessary information or they fail to proofread their essays or application and turn in work that they never would have submitted in high school.

I sadly see lots of really stupid mistakes at the crucial time when mistakes shouldn't be made. Frankly, I can't understand why this happens. Kids like you work really hard to get the credentials that you have and then these same kids blow it right at the most important time: the college application process.

You might want to call up Syracuse and find out what happened.

yea i kno u wrote that tax.

lol @ PMc. cool.

Accepted with...

SAT: 2170 (740 CR/710 M/720 W) SAT II Lit- 680 W History- 700 Bio- 630
Rank: my school doesnt rank, but in the top 30-40%, and 6.2 average out of 7 on IB scale
Private International School, IB diploma candidate
Three great letters of rec.
ECs: umm my school doesn't have many but ecology club member, debate club founder and president, Congressional Award Bronze and Silver, piano and flute for over 10 years, Habitat for Humanity, other service projects

I applied to a lot of other places, I really don't think in the end I'll be at Syracuse

what school did people apply to and get into? Did anyone apply to Human services and health studies?

college of arts and sciences, undecided major

I applied and got into Health and Human services.

My daughter was accepted into the Setnor school as a voice performance major. I was just looking for some information from other parents or vocal performance majors as to the caliber of the school and what the acceptance rate is for vocal performance. When she auditioned, at the Lubin House in NYC, the staff from Syracuse gave us the impression that Setnor was looking for an incoming class of 50-including voice, instruments, music ed and composition. That seemed like a very small number although I don't know how many auditioned in total. Also, how much interaction is there within VPA-would she be able to take dance and acting classes as well? audtion for musicals? Any help, advice would be appreciated-thanks

Raaa.

cant wait

twinsmother, I was accepted into Setnor for music industry. 50 students a year seems awfully small and competitive but I read somewhere that currently there are 206 students in the school- so that basically means 50 students in the freshman class. We'll find everything out at the open house thing on the 28th though. I know for sure though that voice is extremely competitive for setnor (but as with any school for some reason I can't figure out). :)

Accepted, buisness school at Syracuse. GPA - 3.7 unweighted
