Check my email box and found the acceptance letter from University of Pittsburgh. I'm applying for the Master of Information Sci, School of Info Sci. First ever ad makes me feel good~

Unfortunatey, still in the letter, it wrote "Please let us know the decision by 2/29/2008"... how can I reply while other better ones like CMU and Cornell (March or April at least) is still have a long way to go? Too soon i guess..

I wanna delay the deadline, for a few days at least. But i dont know how to say and when to say (now, or closing to the deadline?). Most importantly, whether my plea would make a difference...

I am in a somewhat similar situation. Give your programs at CMU and Cornell a call and they may work with you in reaching a decision by a sooner date if possible. Otherwise, maybe pay the deposit anyways and see if you get in to the others later on.

They shouldn't be doing that, really. I was under the impression that most universities agreed not to pressure applicants for a reply any earlier than the 15th of April (I think). Call U of Pitt and tell them that you want to wait and see where else you get accepted. Did you tell them which other universities you've applied to somewhere on your application form?

Pitt is trying to get you to commit early because they want you. This is a common tactic. It is not unethical at all. Your next move should be to call the DGS, and simply tell him/her that you are waiting to hear from two other institutions, and cannot commit until date X or Y.

I've just contacted Pitt's admission office and they set my replying date forward to April 15th, through my dedicated persuasion. lol

The exact reason for the short deadline is that they set a wide range of time to process my file awaiting for Financial Statement and Int'l Office's assessment by May. I persuaded her i can make it through Fedex.
