I will be attending a community college in fall, and they have an agreement with UCLA to get "Priority Consideration" if you complete the community college Honors program with 18 units of honors courses. I won't be able to complete 18 because the major I'm preparing for just doesn't offer enough Honors courses. I can take up to about 13 units total of honors courses with major and IGETC combined. Have any of you been accepted into UCLA from a community college without the honors program? Any information on what you did would be appreciated, and if you could mention what major you are studying, I would appreciate it also. Thanks...

Hello, these are all good questions/considerations. I personally did not do the Honors program and I was accepted to both UCLA and Berkeley without it. I am an English major, and what I found to be a great asset was a combination of things: 1) talking to the UCLA rep at my school, seeing what I needed to work on, discovering what GPA I needed to get in and so forth; 2) completing IGETC and completing ALL (not some, ALL) major prep at my CCC and in addition, making sure that you have a compelling essay.

TAP/Honors is not necessary, however.....in the more impacted majors such as Bus/Econ, BioChem and so forth, it is absolutely necessary that your GPA, TAP completion and essay set you apart. Good luck to you! Another thing...you'll find this also very helpful. On the transfer forum, look for a thread that says, "Admitted to UCLA", and "Rejected from UCLA", or some other names and you'll see the stats of many of the transfers who go in and those who didn't.

Wow thats very helpful thank you.

I agree with MIchelle having your major prep completed is priority number 1 it will definstely set you apart from those who have thir course work in proigress. As a ucla rep stated when I asked about my chances with a 3.4 to get in as a poli sci major "your'e fine because your'e not a risk considering the fact that you have all your major courses completed with A's at that" so as long as you have high grades in the classes in your major and as long as theyr'e completed by the time you apply then you shouldn't need honors. good luck
