acceptances before Christmas

Some people have mentioned auditioning before Christmas in hopes that your child will have at least one acceptance going into the new year. I am having trouble finding out which schools would notify the kids soon after a November audition and not wait until March to notify everyone at the same time. I would love some suggestions. Thanks!

Usually I think most people are referring to their non-audition safety school. Some of the schools that do early auditions do notify you and occassionally there is an acceptance but most the time it is a waitlist/deferral until the auditions are done or a rejection

Our only one is University of the Arts. I think Hartt may.
A good way to check is to go to last year’s acceptance thread for December and January and see which schools are listed.

Some schools that made early decisions last year included:
Elon
NYU
OCU
Texas State
Ohio Northern
Rider
Point Park
Hartt
SMU
TCU
Northwestern (academic ED)
Marymount Manhattan

Schools change their policies year to year so you would need to check with each to see what this year’s process will be. At many of these schools they only accepted a few people early, often deferring a decision for many until Spring.

Here is a link to last year’s acceptance thread: [thread=1427911]MT Acceptances HS Class of 2013 by College Name[/thread]

Add Shenandoah to the list. My son got accepted 2-3 weeks after the audition, but not everyone gets notified early.

And you can add Baldwin Wallace to the list as well. D auditioned for them in November last year and received an acceptance prior to Christmas Day.

Anyone know about Wright State?

My S has 2 early auditions, Wright State and Baldwin Wallace in November. Then Rider 12/14. Thanks

I have also heard about people getting accepted before christmas to Emerson, Wright State, and CCM is rolling so that has happened I have heard.

Coastal Carolina has made early offers in the past from their November auditions. We did not due so last year because of the new pre-screen, but it may happen again this year if people were to attend the November fall audition and were greatly wanted.

Something to look into is if the early acceptances were primarily (or only) for binding Early Decision applicants, or for non-binding Early Action applicants and/ or ZRolling Decision applicants.

For a student who is NOT 100% gung ho (both in spirit and in financial viability) for one school, non-binding Early Action, or early admittance from Rolling Admissions is often the better choice.

Binding Early Decision is terrific for those students who are sold on a clear first choice (both in spirit and in financial viability). Not all may have this clear choice.

:)

D auditioned on 12/8 for Wright State last year, and received an “admit in good standing” from admissions by 12/12. An acceptance was sent out on 1/3, just after the new year, less than a month later. Very efficient people! And she did not apply EA or ED at any of her schools - wanted to keep her options wide open. (Baldwin Wallace, mentioned above, was rolling admissions.)

^Just to clarify, for those who are still getting used to the terminology: EA (early action) is non-binding and does not limit the student’s options in any way. A few universities have a program that only allows EA applications to one school (single-choice early action), but that’s still non-binding, and I don’t know of any theater programs that use this protocol. Early Decision is the only path that limits the student’s options. Hope that makes sense…

I think George Mason Univ. has an early action (non-binding) option and some audition dates in November that enable a decision by Christmas. Brooklyn College, which is part of the CUNY system has rolling admissions but it can take a long time for them to process things. However, an early start may enable a decision by Christmas too.

D was accepted to Hartt a few days before Christmas–(I remember it well!) They have an early notification audition in December. Emerson also has an EA (nonbinding) audition in December and they seem to be giving up their cut program.

A number of the schools on the list above (NYU, Northwestern, etc.) have ED auditions, which means you’re obligated to attend if you’re accepted.

You guys, it would probably be easier to list the schools that do not have EA or ED. It’s not unusual.

Just make sure your kids know if they don’t get an early acceptance it’s not the end of the world.

S received a letter today from Baldwin Wallace it says “students who audition in November and have complete applications with all supporting materials will receive a decision letter from the University and Conservatory by December 15.”

Students who audition in Jan, Feb and Mar will receive notification by March 20.

“Binding Early Decision is terrific for those students who are sold on a clear first choice (both in spirit and in financial viability).”

Does this mean that those needing financial aid should never apply ED to such programs? The Common Application ED agreement suggests otherwise:

AustinMT- just want to add that while many schools now have EA option, it doesn’t always apply to theatre applicants because of the audition schedule. And, of course to make it more complicated for theatre kids, some schools (like Fordham) require the apps to be in by the EA deadline, but there is no EA option for them.
