Last week we heard from UCAS that my S was accepted to Aberdeen for
their History of Art program. Yesterday he was given an
unconditional offer for the same major in St. Andrews and Edinburgh.
The nice thing about these programs is after four years you have
your MA. The bad thing is the exchange rate and no financial
assistance for US students. US federal aid and grants still apply
but that would be a drop in the bucket.
With over two months to go in finding out the results on this side
of the Atlantic it’s nice to have these options.
Now we have to wait on Harvard, Columbia, Brown, Princeton, Williams and Amherst, NYU anf Lafayette.

What were your son's stats? Did he take any college classes or was everything self-study?

No college classes but he had what is called a "Classical Education". An emphasis on the Great Books and a book list a mile long. His SAT I was 1420 with a 790 verbal and a 760 SAT 2 writing. He took AP's and got mostly 4's and a 5 AP Euro. His hook for the Ivys are his illustrations in which he has done professional work since 15 for work published world-wide. We aren't being unrealistic with his choices in the States, but feel that Brown or Williams might find him interesting. He wants to study Art History focusing on Medievel Art.

Is he the same age as most of the people applying (ie. 17-18) or is a a lot younger since he was home-schooled? I know a lot of the ivies don't like taking younger kids even if they are well-qualified.

He is a very mature 18.5 as he has taken a gap year.

I'd say he has a great chance at the ivies, especially Brown.

Good luck!
