i auditioned at chicago unifieds, got a yes and some lovely scholarship money earlier this month.

D auditioned this past Sat. Admissions Status updated today to say "Our last contact with you was with Theatre Scholarship Award Letter Sent on 03/24/2009

Hooray--finally some good news. Keeping fingers crossed for all who are waiting.

Interesting development. Daughter received call today saying that the auditor at Unifieds in NY was not sure about her and could she send in a video tape with two new monologues within the next ten days. Anything like this happen to anyone else before?

I have never heard of this before but it happened today to one of my advisees as well with Point Park. And I don't understand why they waited this long to ask them for a video, let alone that they auditioned in person. By the time they review it, these kids will have other school acceptances in hand and also if they want to consider PP, if accepted, they have to make travel arrangements to do so. But you are not alone apparently in what happened today with some who auditioned for PP THiS YEAR.

My daughter was quite surprised by the phone call and the request to submit new monologues this late. I agree with you I do not understand how they could have waited so long to let her know there was a problem. She auditioned Feb. 1st. We have not gone to Point Park. Our plan was to visit once accepted(our hope). She has some decisions to make this weekend. This just seemed so unusual, but I was not sure if this had happened in previous years. I am sorry your advisee has to go through the same thing. I wish them the best.

I know this is a PP Acceptance thread, but I just noticed that Sarasmom was asking about rejections (sorry I didn't see this earlier). My D auditioned for PP in Nov (her first audition). She was called back that day for MT, but received the rejection letter about two weeks later. So there you go...at least now you know of one person who has received a rejection...;)

Thank you for the info TXKatsmom. I'm sorry to hear that. However, I noticed your D does have a wonderful acceptance! That's fantastic!

Re: Point Park notifications... Is it me or does this process seem to be all over the map this year? I mean it's supposed to be rolling admissions, ( and for some it has been ) so you would think that they'd try and be consistent and go chronologically with everyone... at least somewhat to be fair. They tell you you'll know within a month and then it's two months later and you hear of all these acceptances and now deferrals and then they ask for additional monologues via video, which is just odd in itself, well.. I'm stumped. I almost feel like calling and saying " helloooo....what's going on over there? " ...but... I won't. ;-)

Things appear very different to me with Point Park this year after having followed the process for several years. So, no, it isn't you. :D

I am feeling your pain Sarasmom! My D auditioned almost EIGHT weeks ago and NOTHING! The only change has been last week. It's the same thing others have gotten on their admission status about the missing deposit! I think 2 months is a ridiculous amount of time to wait when others have recieved admissions and rejections within a couple of weeks. We have not had a request for additional monologues. For those that did, I would look at it as a positive! At least you know they are still considering you. :)

I don't know that I see it as positive. My daughter was told she could submit them if she wished. It sounds like they hope some students won't take the time to do this and so they have an out. This situation of basically re-applying was never mentioned before and leaving it this late in the process I just have to wonder about their motives. It just adds extra stress that is not needed at this time. I wish all those other students that are waiting a much better outcome than this.

Reading this thread gives me "pause" about Point Park. My D was accepted there in the acting program. She is considering it, but it seems like (reading between the lines) that either you love PPU or hate it. Maybe that is too strong. We haven't visited yet -- will try to do that in the next few weeks. But I would really LOVE anyone's honest assessment of PPU's acting program and the school generally. I know that its academics are weak, and that you start as a BA and are considered for BFA later. I have heard that they have fabulous productions, but it is rumored that some acting/MT students are never cast in shows -- which seems odd. But I don't know if it is just a rumor. I have heard that the students are very supportive and friendly. It seems like the number of students in the program is larger than other programs. But is the acting program any good? Does it prepare students adequately for professional career? Any insight/thoughts would be greatly appreciated as we weigh this option.

IMHopeful - PPU has a wonderful acting program and many of the acting majors are cast even in the musical productions. It is no rumor that some Acting/MT students never get cast. PPU casts as it is done in the real world of theatre - talent first but you MUST also look the part. My D is a senior MT major/dance minor and has many friends who are graduating with her who have never been in a PPU production. Students aren't even allowed to audition until the very end of their freshman year and then they can audition for the "One Acts" which are directed by senior directing majors/minors. My D has been very fortunate to have been in six productions at PPU and was also selected for the Showcase 2009 which will take her to NYC and L.A. to audition for agents in May. As far as academics at PPU, they do have core requirements and they're not fluff courses; with an Acting or MT major there are more theatre requirements than academics, but that's what they're there for anyway. If your D is looking for a campus type setting for school, this is not the place. PPU is right in the middle of downtown Pittsburgh and the campus consists of two buildings, no wide open spaces or green grass to lounge on - if your D is looking for a great school to perfect her trade, then PPU is the right school for her.

Thanks much for the response. I appreciate it. My D is looking for a place where she can get the best possible acting training among the options that she has before her. Everything else is secondary. There are many things she has heard about PPU that she really likes. I am assuming she will get a better sense of it when she visits in April.

I have only posted about the recent issue with students being asked to basically re-apply to the program. My daughter would not have auditioned for Point Park if it had not had a good reputation. I cannot comment on the school itself only on this one issue. We had hoped to travel to Point Park and then judge the school for ourselves. I wish IMHopeful's daughter a great visit to Point Park in April.

I wouldn't read into the quality of the program based on the confusion of the notifications. My daughter too, would not have auditioned if she had thought it wasn't an excellent program. One of her old classmates, two yrs ahead of her, is in the BFA Acting and loves it.

We're all just a little baffled regarding the consistency of the notices. Maybe it's because there's even more talent out there and their usual process isn't cutting it so they're adjusting. ? Who knows! :-)

We have bad news to report..My D was rejected from PP. It's okay with her because she had already ruled it out and has acceptances at schools she was more interested in. That being said..we would much rather have had an acceptance than a rejection!
I called Point Park today to find out when we might have an answer since she had auditioned TWO MONTHS ago! They told me that they had just sent out a large bulk of letters a couple of days ago. He looked up my D's name and since hers had been one of those sent out, he told me her results over the phone. He was VEEERY nice! I hope this helps all of those still waiting to know it might not be much longer. Hopefully with a better result than ours! Good luck to you all! :)

2Bornot2B67-
Did your status on your admissions page change at all?

CaitiMo707- No it did not.

So sorry to hear hear about your D's rejection. It's certainly not the end of the world and I'm sure your D will be successful at another school of her choice. Point Park gets so many female applicants, it's really much harder for the girls to get accepted. Good luck to you and your daughter and enjoy the move off to college - the four years go so quickly. My D is graduating in a month from PPU, I can't believe it, it's a rather scarey circumstance knowing that now she'll be out there. Don't know what area you're from but if you're anywhere near the Morgantown, WV area, go see their summer stock shows - they're wonderful. This will be my D's third summer working there - she'll be in CATS again this summer as Sillabub. They have their last round of auditions this weekend for the summer season. In the future, tell your D to try out for them - they're wonderful to work for - visit them at West Virginia Public Theatre for more info - it's a great place for her to start her career in theatre. Again, good luck to both of you!!!

Does anybody have any information on the deferred students? The letter says they will know April 1 (which I always thought made no sense since the next audition was April 4) but I am wondering if anyone else with a deferral heard anything this week?
