Accepted ED but HUGE grade drop

I got accepted into washU ED, but last semester, I had a HUGEEE grade plunge :( I'm so so so ashamed, I have almost straight B's and B-'s and like...one A-. It was horrible, I didn't even make the honor roll (something that EVERYONE makes) I seriously am in a panicked state right now..wondering if washU is going to send me some...horrible letter...oh gosh...
has anyone had any experience in this department?

I do not know how Wash U handles it, but have some experience elsewhere. Generally speaking, withdrawing an acceptance is a very rare thing and only in extreme circumstances. So while I think your acceptance is OK, I expect they will want to talk about it. Talk to your advisors and see if you should contact Wash U first.

Also, be fair to yourself. For kids going someplace like Wash U, senior year is often a big jump in terms of AP classes and general difficulty. You are probably taking a college level load now, and that GPA is not bad for college.

While many kids slack off the second semester of senior year, you might need to kick it in a little. If you do, I think you will be OK. Keep us posted.

Wash U likes kids who challenge themselves and take challenging curriculum's. I suspect as long as you can make that argument (if indeed they ask), you'll be fine.

B's are OK. Don't sweat it too much.

I'm pretty sure B's are fine; just don't get any C's. I knew a few seniors last year who got quite a few B's that were accepted ED, and they didn't get kicked out.

This ridiculous thread has inspired me to make my first post. In high school, I was consistently about an A- student. First half of senior year I ended up with mostly B's some A's. It was fine. Got into Wash U regular decision anyhow. I was too lazy to pick up my final report card, but my chemistry teacher personally informed me that I got a 30% for fourth quarter, which meant I either failed or got a D for second semester chem. No big deal to Wash U apparently. English I ended up with a C I think. The rest were pretty much B's. My opinion is that you have to screw up pretty badly for Wash U to rescind.

^^^ that's reassuring :)

I think at this point it simply becomes a pride issue. I got nearly straight A's up until this current quarter. It's interims, and I have more B's than A's. I don't think it will matter at all for college. The thing is, I'm going to lose my valedictorian status and probably finish salutatorian, letting my archenemy win, but whatever. I can take the ego-blow for some actual fun during the last half of my senior year.

the only thing I am worried about: what if I get waitlisted at a school? will my final grades affect their final decision?

Before I was accepted ED, my grades were all A's with the exception of one B for a semester. However, I'm afraid that I'm going to end up with a B in AP Bio and a C in BC Calc. I was wondering if WashU would revoke my admission if that's what I end up with for second semester.

Also, if that's what I have for second semester, they would just kick me out without sending me a warning right?

Someone posted this link on a different forum, and i think it's very true...

When Do College Rescind Admissions? - Ask The Dean

honestly, i'm not trying to sound mean or condescending but....chill out. a B or C isn't going to cost you your spot at any school. you really should only be worried about F's...maybe D's....but it is so so rare that colleges rescind admissions that you need to just relax and try to enjoy the rest of this year!

seriously, you are all second semester seniors, and you should all relax a bit. After getting near perfect grades all through highschool don't you think you deserve to let go a little? As long as you don't fail any of your classes, I think you should all be fine. Senior year is supposed to be fun, and I think you will regret it if you stress too much about grades, for institutions where you have all probably been accepted.

That's easy to say for you, but when my parents don't let up on the pressure, it's not like I can just "let go". The obsession with grades can't be solely blamed on the students...the parents tend to play a big part in it as well - a part that we, the students, can't control.

I feel like one of the best things about Wash U is that most students are pretty "chill" and aren't really the type of student that stresses out too much about that kind of stuff. Just a thought.

Please, you will be okay. I had a C- and they still didn't rescind my acceptance. As long as you don't get D's or F's, then you're fine.
