Just curious…some of the folks who had applied to BU (and had posted here frequently) must have gotten accepted elsewhere. I’m hoping that their choices were terrific ones too, but wonder about them too. Anybody know where any of those students are going? In particular, I’m wondering about Starynight? She was a music major and I’m wondering where she (and some of the others) will be going.

I'm in a hard situation right now. Babson vs BU. sigh I really like Babson for its Business major, but I like how BU has bigger student body and its in the city too.

I was also accepted to....NYU, Berkeley, UCLA, other UCs and Fordham. I'm most likely going to NYU though.

HelloSonic I'd take BU if you like the feeling of being right in the city with a larger student body because although Babson is a good business school if you decide to change your major BU is just fantastic in so many other departments. Babson's small size has also caused some major problems in the lack of social life and small student body.

I was also accepted at UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, Carleton, and Whitman. I'm accepting spots on the wait lists of Rice and Wesleyan. Right now though, it's sorta between Berkeley, UCLA, Carleton, and BU. I can't really decide.

The other schools I'm debating on right now are USC and UCLA. I really don't know how to choose. I love BU because its in Boston but I also know that USC and UCLA are a bit more competitive -- that and the weather in LA is tolerable!

Any suggestions?

How far do you want to be from home---since they are on opoosite coasts.

my decision at this point is between bu and bc

Well BC is known for much more of a drinking scene and more sports fan oriented since they have a football team so if that is your thing BC may be a better fit. As close as it is to Boston the BC kids tend to stay on their campus though where as the BU kids venture out more into the city especially the Newberry Street area. BC is a Catholic school so that may or may not be relevant depending on your backgound. Which school at BC or BU would you enroll in?

I've been accepted to Vanderbilt, Indiana University, and Bard College so far, in addition to BU. I'll go to IU if money allows, but otherwise BU or Vandy.

at both bu and bc i would be enrolling in the arts and science as a bio/premed major

Does BC have a medical school? I know BU does and since BU has their own hospital/health care system you may have more opportunities for research and internship in your major. What did you like about BC? Are you Catholic since that is a very Catholic School. Naturally we are biased toward BU but not everyone gets excited about a campus within a city. I don't think the academics will be much different so the suburb vs city life may be a tipping point for you.

lets look at it this way the pros and cons of both BU and BC so you can make a decision.

Boston College

Pros: Suburb just down the road from BU
Defined campus with trees and greenery
More well known athletics (basketball and hockey)
Access to Boston yet still has a campus
Slightly more presitigous
Wealthy upper class Catholic kids
Lack of Diversity

BU

Right in the heart of Boston
No campus well its just up and down Commonwealth Avenue
Barely any trees
Slightly less prestigious in rank
Also has good athletics but definetely not as much as BC
Diverse environment with many minorities
Many wealthy minorities and internationals

well thats whats making my decision harder...while bu does have a med school and bc doesnt i do like the idea of having a central campus and such and bu doesnt have that. But then at hte same time im not catholic and am not sure if that would make my life at bc different. Also in the long run which one will be morebenefical when it comes time to apply to medical school cuz i feel like that should play a factor in my decision.

thanks for all ur input i really appreciate it

DReamer...We're biased toward BU of course. Next time you visit BU get off of Comm Ave. and the small stretch they take you on for the tour. Hang out in the pseudo -quad between the 3 buildings on West, walk through the Student Village area with trees, plants, cobblestone, check out the Arena and new Rec Ctr. with enclosed courtyard s. Go behind the Student Ctr area to the zen garden spaces. You'll see that they have planted more trees and green space in these newer areas as well as The Beach, Bay St, and the South Brownstone community. Lots of kids walk or run along the River right behind the campus and you'll be in a grassy tree lined area then or walk a half mile to Boston Common and you'll be in a huge park environment--the walk there is tree lined as well as is the walk to the Newberry St area. In other words you'll need to have a different perspective on a "campus". Go into the new School of Mangement and see what a unique community feel that has in the midst of an astonishingly artistic and small group interaction oriented environment. BC certainly has a more traditional bucolic enclosed campus so it is worth considering that if its important to you. Ice Hockey is bigger at BU and other sports too but there is no Football team like BC. (a + for BC) BC is Catholic, everywhere you look there are statues and the 185 retired priests living in the center of campus certainly gives it a religious flavor so you may want to get a handle on how the non-Catholics feel especially on Sunday. Our friend attended Georgeown which is only 50% Catholic but he said the other half were mostly interntionals so the % of US citizen students that were not Catholic was more like 30%. He didn't mind it though except it seemed a lot of them went to Catholic HSs and so there wasn't as much diversity. BU dosen't have enough diversity either but thats true of every northern school. These schools are so similar in stats and academics that I doubt your Medical School goals will be effected either way. If BU allowed you to work with their medical dept. on reserach projects as an upperclassman and helped you get your internship in that environment that should help but your entrance exams scores will be the most important aspect of your application. Did BC or BU or both offer a spot in the Honors Program yet? Would that make a difference for you?

I've also been accepted to USC, UCI, UCR, and UCSD.

My decision's between USC and Boston, depending on how financial aid will work out. If not, then it's UCSD for me.

I'm in the same situation. I haven't received my financial info from USC yet so I can't choose just yet. I want to negotiate my aid from BU just a little bit more so that their package would be more feasible. On top of that, I'm considering UCLA. I've lived in CA for all my life up until this past summer and now I would have to pay out of state tuition...which is not feasible.

Well good luck with your choices.

BU has an unbelievable pre-med program. It is exceedingly difficult, but its students do quite well. BU is a renowned research institution with very modern science facilities. BC is nestled in quaint Newton, and derives it's reputation from Div. 1 football, alumni connections, and its Jesuit-affiliation.

its reputation*

I'm stuck between USC and BU too. I really don't know which school to attend coz i know both are equally good. USC prolly has a better campus, alumni network and better student life than BU. But BU has more reasearch oppurtunities and is ranked 10th in the nation for biomedical engineering (my major). If someone out there could help...
