So I applied and was accepted to Vanderbilt, and in my acceptance package, I didn't see any notification about financial aid. Considering my income bracket, I would have to assume that I would receive at least some sort of financial aid. And if not, wouldn't they at least tell me that I didn't receive aid? A friend of mine in my school also applied and was accepted to Vanderbilt. He is also in a very low income scale, but did not hear anything about financial aid.

So does anyone have any idea what this means? Was I supposed to check online or something? I've already committed to another college, but I was just really curious about how much financial aid Vanderbilt offered me, if they offered me anything at all. Thanks!

Did you apply for financial aid and send them all the necessary materials? You have to do more than just check the “I’m applying for aid” box on the application. In my experience, most colleges will send you some sort of finance sheet if you applied for aid, even if they don’t offer you any. It’s possible they’re missing some materials, but I wouldn’t waste too much time if you’ve committed somewhere else. Calling and asking never hurts.

Well I’ve sent in everything they asked for (FAFSA, IDOC, CSS, etc.) as did my friend. I just find it odd that they didn’t say anything about my financial aid. I would presume that they would at least tell me if I got no aid.

I think I submitted my tax forms straight to Vandy. I’m not sure, since a few schools such as UPenn wanted them directly. I definitely do remember them sending me a confirmation email saying that all necessary financial documents were received though. Oh well.

Same thing happened to my daughter. When I called, I was told she had neglected to put her SSN on the Common App. It was optional - unless applying for FA. The FA office couldn’t coordinate with admissions without her SSN. This was not an issue at any other school. Within hours of calling, I was sent a screen shot of FA offer. Call ASAP. They gave her great financial aid and she will be attending in the fall.

Hmm, that’s weird, I actually did put my SSN on my Common App (it was mandatory for me, since I’m a permanent resident and not a citizen). Oh well. I’ll definitely tell my friend about it asap.
