Financial Aid Letter?

So I just got my acceptance package today in the mail (I live in Washington). I applied for financial aid but there was no letter anywhere describing my aid package situation (whether I received any aid or not). Do they usually send aid letters separate from admissions decisions? Should I be concerned? I'm planning on calling the aid office Monday to inquire further about my financial situation.

I received my acceptance package and it came with a financial aid package. I don't know what the precedent is though.

I got my financial aid letter with my acceptance as well

Vandy does send the award letter with the acceptance packet. Did you look inside the viewbook? If nothing is there, don't fret. It's possible that our letter didn't make it into your packet - there's a ton of paperwork to process & things do get overlooked. A call to the f/a office Monday will clear it up.

Did you turn in your tax forms & W2? If not, that would hold things up for you.

i love vandy! they gave me 31k (12k merit 19k need) Rice gave me NONE

Yea, I didn't get anything either about financial aid. Is there anyway that I can check online? I looked and it says that it needs my VUNetID. no idea what that is...

Yea, I'm definitely calling them on Monday, cause online it says:
"Regular Decision applicants who submit their need–based aid application forms by February 1 will receive their award letter in their admission packet. Students applying Regular Decision will receive their decision letter by April 1."

If you did not submit all required documents, your aid estimate may not be ready.

You won't get your VUNetID until later - so you'll have to call Monday.

I'm pretty sure I did, I submitted FAFSA and CSS (well before the deadlines)... There was no separate application, right?

Did you send tax forms and W2s? Those are necessary.

... Not sure, my mom took hold of sending the tax forms, I'll check with her, but if we didn't, are we gonna be in major trouble with financial aid?
I remember sending the tax forms to other places, I'm going a bit foggy for Vandy..

Hard to say - plus, that might not even be the issue here. I just offered it as a possibility. It could be that the award letter just missed getting into your packet! :)

We do not qualify for need based aid but D did not get any information on the TN Lottery or GAMS scholarship from Vanderbilt and I did do the FAFSA for that and got confirmation from the state that she is eligible for it. She is also a NMF and already indicated that Vanderbilt is her #1 choice. There was no letter addressing that either.
Since she was (and still is) #1 in her class at the end of her junior year, she also did not receive any notification that she might receive a Top Tenn scholarship and she did apply for the Cornelius Vanderbilt scholarship in order to be considered for others as well.
Do the less than full ride merit scholarships get sent out later?

I don't know how TN works, but in my own state, the state scholarships/grants are not on the award letters at this time - because the state has to certify them & send a list to the school after the student commits. Maybe that's how it works in TN, too?

Yup, I did, we sent all the tax forms (including W2’s) through IDOC, so I don’t know what the problem is… Sorry guys, I’m just trying to make sure there’s nothing wrong on my part, and I’m still gonna call the FA office on Monday. Kelsmom, any other suggestions?

We are in the same boat. My son received the acceptance package yesterday, but there was no mention of academic money. We sent in our FAFSA some time ago, but just sent in the CSS profile about a week ago. So, we aren’t sure if he just isn’t getting anything or we created a delay?? We won’t qualify for need based money, so will likely be academic money. How common is it for them to give academic money?

I’m pretty sure your’s is just delayed, because the deadline to submit CSS was Feb. 1st… I’m sure you’ll still get financial aid though… Merit aid = apply for before the january deadlines, so I don’t think you’ll get academic scholarships, just maybe some grants if Vandy wants your son. But, definitely call them about your options on Monday.

yea dont worry it will come.
i was sooooooooooooo shocked when i got my letter. WASH U gave me 3000 a year but vandy is giving me 47 k A YEAR!!! Stay optimisitc

Yayy - is Vandy using IDOC for freshman? My D is a returning student & I sent the info directly to the financial aid office. Are you sure you sent your info to them?? Call tomorrow & find out.

OMG I <3 vanderbilt for being AWESOME about financial aid

ok, so I called, and I’ve got myself straightened out, but here’s what they’re looking for, for anybody who didn’t get their award letter with their acceptance

*FAFSA

*CSS Profile

*2008 Tax Returns - Parent and Student (Send these along with all schedules, even if you’ve done IDOC)

if necessary Proof of Citizenship (a copy of your passport, just those two pages with your picture and signature)

*any other forms that pertain to YOU

I’m just gonna fax in everything, they recommend that you do that.

I also asked if being late is going to penalize your award (would I have gotten more if I had sent in everything before) and they said no it wouldn’t, but definitely send them over ASAP

& they said that after they receive everything, you will receive an award letter in a week

Hope this helps anybody who freaked out like me!!!
