Accepted off the waitlist!

Wow... this was a big surprise!

I got a call yesterday from a woman at CALS admissions, letting me know that I had been accepted off the waitlist. When I initially received the waitlist decision in April I made the decision to matriculate at UNH Honors, but I sent back the card to Cornell indicating that I would like to stay on the waitlist- I figured that it couldn't hurt. My college counselor suggested that I write letters, get additional recommendations, etc if I still was intrested. I decided not to. He warned me that that would likely put me at the bottom of the pile... that was fine with me!

And then I got in! I'm opting for UNH... I really just liked the atmosphere a whole lot better, and the program is nearly identical. Nonetheless, I can't wait to get my acceptance package from Cornell! I just wanted to let you guys know... all of you '09ers and other CC people were awesome the few months leading up to decision time. Best of luck next year!

That's fantastic! You must really be excited, they don't take many off the wait list. Obviously you should give it serious thought since you're going into animal science. It doesn't get much better than Cornell. Anyways, nice hearing from you again and good luck with whatever you decide.

Congrats! I also got in from the waitlist yesterday, for CAS. I'm pretty sure i'm going to Cornell, I had already accepted for UNC-Chapel Hill but i'd rather go to Cornell, its farther from home. UNC is 45 min from my house!

Wow, it seems quite a few ppl have gained acceptance from the waitlist, which is quite odd.

i think quite a few people are getting off the waitlist this year. My girlfriend got a call the otherday and she got in off the waitlist to the AAP school. AAP had 5 available spots to fill from the waitlist.

congrats to you guys!!! but, things are looking grim for me....

so, how did cornell contact everyone? just a phone call?

Alright, gomestar! So when someone on CC mentioned earlier that s/he won't be taking the AAP place, it did work out for you/gf after all.

congrats! welcome to class '09. ;)

Thanks guys :) .

Fish, are you planning on going next year? You got the guaranteed transfer, right? I'm thinking about asking for that in case I don't like UNH. But we'll see.

There were quite a few factors that went into me not choosing Cornell... but the biggest being that I know about 10 people who have gone there (or whose parents/sister/brother went there) and I have to say that I have not met one person who has endorsed it. Several ended up transferring out or just being unhappy, but going with it anyway. Their reasons included being too far (I'm from MA), too big, too in-the-middle-of-nowhere, too depressing in the winter. No one argued that Cornell's academics were awesome and that the professors were great but they said that they just couldn't deal with the atmosphere. I heard from several (including one girl I just met who transferred out after her first year) that the social scene involves either drinking/partying or not lifting your nose from a book. She said that there is little to do, except Ithaca, which gets very boring after a while. She found herself in the middle (which is where I would consider myself) and therefore she was very unhappy. Now of course I understand that their are plenty of people who have gone through Cornell and absolutely loved it. I just haven't met any of them. UNH seems like such the perfect fit for me... and it has an AniSci program that is fabulous as well.

WTG, '09ers!

adamo- yes I got a phone call, on Thursday. don't give up hope yet though, i'm sure some people won't accept their spot from the waitlist and they'll have to call more people.

My son received a phone call on Wednesday accepting him from the waitlist for CALS.

yea i was waitlisted too, and im still waiting to hear. I know the chances now are pretty grim but will cornell notify me if i am not accepted off the waitlist?

2 kids in my school were accepted off the waitlist already. That makes 10 people going to Cornell from my school next year. Public schools rule lol.

I was accepted off the waitlist for the college about 2-3 weeks ago, but I won't be attending because a few days later, Columbia took me off their waitlist (my top choice all along!) :).

I hope my spot goes to one of you guys. Good luck!

Wantpenn-
I'm almost positive that they'll notify you regardless of the outcomes of your waitlist status. It's only a matter of time before you get the phonecall or letter. Good luck!

no call for me. <cries></cries>

Congrats and getting off the WL and good luck at UNH. Although you may be somewhat right about the social scene, you are probably misinformed about the students and the atmosphere. For some reason, I have a disproportionately large number of friends that are in AnSci. In my opinion, they are some of the most laid-back, casual, easy-going, down to earth people that I've met at Cornell. It's a stark change from the typical CALS bio major and none of them are unhappy.

Sorry to take so long in getting back to you WatchJakeJump but I haven't found much of a reason to be on here anymore. Yes, I got a guaranteed transfer to Natural Resources (got it changed from SNES). I plan to be at Cornell in 2 years.

It's been interesting watching you, someone with similar credentials, hear from colleges and make the choice. I'm also intrigued by the fact that you were waitlisted and I was hit with the transfer. At first I thought I was in a better position because historically they take so few from the waiting list. I think it's a product of which major we each applied to. Anyways, you were accepted to Cornell and you'll always have that but picking a school that is the best fit is commendable.
Good luck in all of your endeavors.

What is SNES???

yeah...gomestar, i didnt accept the AAP place....she can thank me then eh?
