Well I was on the waiting list for Cornell's College of Engineering... I recently got a phone call from "Sean" telling me that I've been accepted off the waitlist!!!

I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing... IM CONFUSED!!! I had myself so hyped up about going to Tufts' School of Engineering now I need to reconsider... anyone wanna try help me with this decision.

The way I see it... both colleges have GREAT FOOD on campus and VERY BEAUTIFUL campuses. But then... Cornell is in the middle of nowhere and the Engineering is one of the most intense in the NATION. Tufts is in Boston and yet its engineering isn't quite as strong.

Tufts gave me a near full ride... about 40,000 in grants... not sure what Cornell will give me yet... but its probably hard to beat. Unless Cornell is like Harvard and gives low income families a FREE RIDE.

ditto on the congrats. I wonder if most universities call from the waitlist or send a letter? I hadn't thought about it until I started to read that people were getting phone calls, but I guess it makes more sense to call.

Congrats! Wow engineering at Cornell. Tres competitive! Congrats congrats. Afraid I can't help you much in the decision department though as I don't know much about Tufts. All the very best.

Don't expect Cornell to give you free rides. They EXPECT you to pay at least something for summer savings. I'm a low income student and I still had some gaps in my FA package. I have to pay for 2060 summer savings, with no extra family contribution. So be careful

Congratulations on your acceptance to two wonderful schools. As a Cornell alum, of course I am partial... but as a parent, I would advise you to speak with you parents, because $40K in grants is hard to turn down, especially if finances are tight. Cornell has not, as of yet adopted Harvard's model for aid for low income families. From your profile, I can see that you will have to travel from Hawaii, so your travel expenses will be costly. You will get a terrific education at both institutions. Let us all know what you finally decide! Good luck.

hey ilike. i didn't do anything special to get off the waitling list. i guess i was just somewhere near the top of the college of engineering waiting list... i think i was a pretty strong candidate to start with. I didn't send any letters or recommendations to them or anything. Haha. Or maybe its just the luck of the draw.

congrats dimagez!!! i'm also in engineering and i got accepted at both tufts and cornell. i turned down tufts cuz i didnt like it much when i visited, but i think it's a personal thing. and cornell's engineering is much better than tuft's, altho it might be harder. i guess the money is a big thing for your case. i dont know what to tell you, but i just wanted to say congrats and wish you the best for another fellow engineer.:)

Cornell has a pretty fair and straight-forward financial aid system.

They do not give free rides, but they will be fair. They do not bait students in with large financial packages, and all outside aid comes out of your self-help before reducing any grants.
