Those are the basics... I'm pretty well rounded... I've known plenty w/ less impressive stats than mine that got in GA Tech to let you guys know it's not impossibly hard to get into! Good luck! (and don't take that as me saying my stats are really impressive)

I really do hope there are more females going to tech this year.

My numbers

1480 old SAT/2160 new SAT/3.81uw GPA Instate caucasian male

I know of three females who are going so that is at least one more than went last year LOL

Listen....GA State is next door you are in atlanta and UGA with a 60/40 female to male ratio is within an hours drive and closely linked via the instate kids at both institutions.

If you do co-ops you are working in a community/city which if memory serves me correctly are ~51/49 F/M.

Now if you pick a co-op in Alaska that is your bad, but Atlanta, chicago etc all have girls last time I looked

In the end you are trying to get an eduction, so all of those kids who aren't, will work for you some day. So who needs girls. With a tech degree and the money you'll make you should be able to buy three or four of them.....sorry couldn't resist

Yes its true about the ratio. When you are in a 3/4xxx Math/ECE/CS course and girl walks in heads do turn. I hate to admit it but its true. You see girls walking around outside campus and you know they exist but the effects of the ratio is clear.

How do we deal with this?

First off the ratio is a bit misleading. It assumes all males are created equal here and they are not.

We can disregard the following groups of males from the ratio and our figures get a bit better:

People who sit in their dorms for 3 days straight playing Warcraft or Halo2:

You are bound to get at least one of these individuals for roommates in your four years here. He seemingly does not leave the room. Ever. You wonder if he even takes classes. The clicking of a keyboard and a mouse will lull you to sleep each night. If you tell him you are leaving for the weekend and you leave your computer there you'll notice the remains of some game he installed and signs of a video card and LAN that existed to enhance his gaming experience. He will always have at least two pizza/wingnuts boxes laying around because wirless in the dining hall can't handle all the packets he needs to send to slay the new Warlord. He's generally harmless however. He also likely has a porn collection that would put Larry Flint to shame.

Those people aren't taking any of the girls here. They don't even know they exist. They are legends known only to the people who share a hall with him.

CS Majors:

If some of you are coming in to major in CS I mean no disrespect. This doesn't apply you (yet).

They never leave the CoC. You know because they are there when you get there and there when you leave. They wear the same clothes, although the smart ones keep a change on hand. Some have girlfriends but they live in CoC too. They meet there and just stay. So those girls weren't even available to begin with.

Major Potheads.

Nevermind.

People that go home every weekend.

There are a good handful of guys here that just can't get enough of their parents. They live in the outer suburbs of Atlanta and can never do anything on the weekends. They may or may not have girlfriends at home but they just don't care about social life.

So we take these people out of the equation and you're looking better. Be careful though because a lot of those who fall in to catagory 1 also fall in 2.

So how do you meet girls at tech? Three peices of advice for the first year:

1) Do well in CS/MATH/PHYS and make sure your female colleages know this.

They'll wan to study with you. Now don't be nerdy and cocky, just do well and ask if they want to work on a project or something.

2) Take advantage of the lower ratio in IAC/MGT.

There are much more girls in these schools than COS/COE. You'll have to take some of these classes so nows the time to make the move.

3) ASK SOMEONE OUT

You would be so suprised on how many nice girls here do nothing on the weekend simply because no one offers. Offer something. Movie, sporting event, dining, LAN party, you name it.

The ratio exists but its not as bad as it looks on paper.

-

Good luck and welcome to Tech.

OMG, gt, #1 sounds like the guy living with us (he's renting my sister's room while she's at UWG). We're all on a network, and he has a massive porn collection like you said. Though, he does leave, never inviting me, kinda stuck up (he's waaaaay too cocky, also). I don't want another one of those!

I may resemble a #4 every now and then (mainly the first few weeks) because I live in Cobb so I'm within reasonable driving distance.

Oh, and one subgroup of guys you left out: gay guys! I'm pretty sure they'll never date the girls ;).

Tech doesnt seem like the big school for gay guys. I dont know, its just a hunch. I have heard many stories about the CS nerds though.

LOL. There is a substantial gay population, especially with it being in ATL. It's no castro district, but it's not baren of gays.

I got in! My step dad thought it was an alumni thing for him and put it in his pile of mail lol.

Any reason for CS majors being like this? I plan on being a CS major, but then again, I'm going into tech with a girlfriend (majoring in Bio-engineering). I don't expect to be locked up at all times. Is it because of so much work, or because of their nerdiness, as most other CS nerds I know are quite nerdy. (I'm not... too much).
