Accepted/Rejected Transfer Students stats from that past

i agree with alix 1000%.

CAS is definitely very picky about accepting credits. they’ll ask for things such as portfolios or syllabi before they accept the credits. i know someone who lost a whole year while they transferred because they refused the credits from the first college.

they don’t give more leeway to transfers, but they do look at the overall package much more. if you give them a lot to work with, and i did, they tend to look at the student as a whole. my GPA was lower, but i also had a lot of ECs and good recommendations, along with terrific essays and supplements.

but all in all, transfer admissions is REALLY one gigantic crapshoot. nothing is ever for certain. (i would add this onto my previous post, but i’ve passed that “you’re allowed to edit” time frame.)

Transfer app:

Does anyone know how you can elaborate on ECs more in the app? I know there is that small section where you can tick boxes for years participated etc but is there somewhere I can explain further?

I attached a resume and put descriptions. I also talked about my internship in my “Why NYU?” essay.

@vavaviolet

You obviously don’t know what’s going on. 90% of the ED posters were very frustrated with her. She made posts asking about what good spas NYU had, her love for Ed Hardy, and literally 5 threads asking for stats. And Pretty much everyone bashed her as a ■■■■■, spammer and someone who looked at NYU because of her childish fantasies of being in the city. Not my opinion, but from what i’ve read and seen

@ colij
k well u said this twice and now ill correct u. I didn’t ever talk about ed hardy, so YOU are obviously making THAT up. i also did say what spas NYU had, (so STOP trying to stir things up). i wanted to know what amenities the apartments had around new york because i’ve been to an apartment in san francisco that had a gym, spa, and pool. theres nothing wrong with asking that. i dont know if you’ve never had a pool or something or if u dont like to swim, but some of US are actually active. yeah…i could criticize EVERYTHING u say too, but i dont. so try to be nice for the sake of respecting others. and i would go as far as putting 90% of ppl were frustrated with me. It was u, monoclide, and missamerican pie. thats probably less than 1% of the posters on NYU’s thread alone. STOP PICKING FIGHTS WITH PEOPLE. I hope u dont do this in real life.

g111:

if you are using the common app, there is a section in the WRITING part, where you can upload any additional information, and u can put as much as you want in the upload form (near the bottom).

@ alix

i was looking at the usc website once, and they said they dont accept anything before hs graduation, so it’s probably the same with NYU like u said. I just take one or two every now and again…i kinda like taking them even if it doesnt count, cuz it’ll make more sense to me when i go to college if ive already learned about it. for instance, i took chemistry over the summer and then AP chem at school, and it helped me a lot cuz i had some background in it.

rationally i think that a person that was not offered admission by nyu should start to accept their situation and love whatever college they are headed to in the fall. a good beatles lyric says “Theres no where you can be that isnt where youre meant to be.” make the best of your freshmen year and if you decide to apply to nyu as transfer still, then yes apply but dont throw all your chips in that basket because what if nyu still says no?

you should use this as motivation, as growth, and just think that wherever you attend college, that was someones top choice, that people go there and enjoy it, and that people that go to nyu arent perfect and that some people even get accepted and dont want to go, or cant go financially.

i know 2 people from california that went to new york for a semester and then went back. west coast to east coast is kinda a big thing. you just gotta move on. its not always gonna be this gray. great tune whenever you feel down.
thanx. thats really insightful…i’ll keep it in my inbox : ] that helps a lot btw. ill just read it over when i think about nyu

@babygrl

I would NOT recommend finding an apartment in NYC if your parents are already reluctant to pay. It will be A LOT more expensive, may even double the yearly tuition. NYC is not san fransisco, expect every building to have bugs. my sister saw a rat in her dorm last week. Spa’s and amenities should be the least of your concern

and btw, I’m not a liar, and I’m not on CC to make things up and mislead people, everything I said was from what I observed on other threads and I haven’t made any verbal attacks on you, just what other people were saying, for example I recall one person called you a ■■■■■■ on a different thread… another saying you can soothe your anxiety by showering and thinking of ways to kill you which although said as a joke are somewhat harsh. You did in fact make many posts on a major ED thread about ed hardy clothes and act as a ■■■■■, then make a thread just for the purpose of telling all of college confidential that it was your teachers fault for writing bad recommendations that got you rejected, then considering a letter of appeal to the board of admissions in addition to making a thread just to tell all of us that you got in and your parents were hiding your acceptance letter. You titled it EMERGENCY. That is the epitome of things people on college confidential DON’T care about, honestly… I don’t mean to be rude but of all of these things, NO ONE, i repeat NO ONE on college confidential cares about, you keep them personal. Your reputation has even reached the facebook NYU groups and I really recommend you make less threads unless they’re very very important. CC is here for us to help eachother, not for us to read up on one persons own childish problems. This is not a rant, but honest advice

Holy crap people. This is getting out of control.

babygrl9205 - Unless you can provide concrete evidence that the amount of time you spend on college confidential is directly effecting your chances of getting into NYU in a positive way get off of college confidential. If you want to get into NYU this is what you need to do:

Recognize that applying to college is a competition
Applying to colleges is just one big blind competition. You don’t know who you’re competing against, so as a result you have to be in the mindset that you are competing against the best of the best, and that you need to beat that person out. As you can see, the net result of your current statistics weren’t sufficient enough. All that matters is the net results, so you need to improve on what you have right now.

Attend a recognized high caliber college/university for a year (30 credits minimum)
I’m not saying that you can’t get into NYU if you go to a community college, because you definitely can. However going back to the competition point, if you get a 4.0 at Pepperdine and another student gets a 4.0 at a community college you’re already one step ahead of them. Getting 30 credits is vital because that will decrease how much weight your high school statistics have.

Get some stellar Extra Curricular Activities
The key word in this is “stellar”. I’m not saying just do some extra curricular activities. I’m saying kick ass at some extra curricular activities. NYU wants to know that you have something to bring to their community. Prove that to them without a doubt.

Show them that you’ve changed
In your essay you need to say how you’ve changed as a person. This can be through various events in your life, an epiphany etc. NYU wants to see that you have a mature mindset and won’t breakdown when you move to the city.

Do something different
This is the cherry on top. Do something different with your application to show your dedication and skill set. I themed my application around my knowledge of design. One part of the application asked me to “list what I have been doing since leaving school as a full time student” (I left for a semester). Rather than just simply typing it up onto a word document, I designed a timeline on photoshop that allowed the admissions committee to see what I’ve done in a more effective method. I effectively showed that design can intensify and change how we perceive information.

Stop complaining, it’s all your fault and no one else’s
Grow the hell up and stop blaming stuff on teacher recommendations and what not. The NET RESULT is that you were not qualified in NYU’s opinion. Your teacher recommendations must have been poor because they did not have an innate desire to write you a recommendation. You must establish a relationship with the teachers you wish to have write a recommendation for you, so when the time comes they will WANT to write it rather than just writing it for “just another student”. Any other reason that you didn’t get in is completely and 100% your fault, and you need to fix it.

On another point, I agree with Colij Ejoocation. Do not look for an apartment unless you can pay for it. Get housing. I can pay for an apartment, so I’m getting one. If you get a ****ty apartment your going to hate your time at NYU because you’re going to hate where you live.

Now get off this forum and start working towards your goal. Otherwise look at another school to spend all four years at. Either way, it’s going to be a **** ton of work to guarantee that you get into NYU. If you don’t want to do the work that I’ve said above, then go do something else. You’re not helping your chances by arguing with people on college confidential, and you really shouldn’t give a **** what anyone on this forum thinks. I did all of the above plus more which is why I got into every single school i applied to as a transfer student (UMiami, BU, BC, NYU, NYU-Poly, CMC, Northwestern, Tufts) as well as received scholarships to all but NYU.

Btw, these are my high school stats.
HS GPA - 2.7
SATS - 1580/2400

I dated a girl like you once. Stupidest girl I ever met, and she was addicted to jesus (yes she was indian as well). Don’t be that girl, get your act together and grow up.

People talk about babygrl in the facebook NYU groups? Which ones? I totally missed that.

It was mentioned in the comments on a post, and people who friended me on the NYU Accepted group were like “omg babygrl is crazy isn’t she?” after I told them I used college confidential

@colij

okay…seriously. get over it. its getting old now and no one cares about what YOU think about me and no one cares about what you restate from different threads…saying what other people said.

THAT is a bit childish…when your telling me IM childish. this thread is not meant to talk about ME…its asking for stats. and if you gave them, good. if u didn’t and are complaining about me, then stop posting more replies.

@crunchitizeme

thanx for the advice…i didnt know they accept kids with lower than a 3.0 from hs and under 1800 sat scores. thats good to know. i want to go to pepperdine now for a few reasons. the only thing is that they dont have my exact major: neuroscience. NYU and USC have it as well as UCLA. but i think if i study chemistry or biology it’ll still work. when i went to visit claremont, the teacher said that you can choose any major before grad school as long as u learn the material. u can even major in math and go into pre-med.

also, i already have 28 credits (it’s just i dont think they’ll count) unless i continue in community, but i’ll still be taking a liberal arts education, so i can get some more that WILL count.

and colij doesnt know what he’s talking about. i can pay for an apartment, i was asking if they’re more than a certain amount cuz one person said its 9000 dollars, but i looked online and theyre not that much, if u get a regular apartment. its from 1500+ which is a good price.

the recommendations: 2 teachers did not write good letters but i found out my counselor and science teacher wrote really good ones so thats what im sending for my other colleges. yeah i know its not their fault…its mine.

i applied to like 10 more colleges and half of them are reaches and the other half are matches. so im workin towards my goal! : ] u said u got into NYU poly, and i got the letter from them but i didnt choose it for 2 reasons: its in the bronx (or brooklyn forgot wich one) and i think thats a bad area? and 2: they didnt have my major since its based around engineering…? i think. the polytechnic college in my town is like that so thats what i was comparin it to.

u got into northwestern AND claremont?? did u write phenomenal essays or sumthin? im not tryin to be rude, but how come they dont care much about ur gpa and sat score? id probably get rejected from northwestern and CMC but i applied to both.

wouldn’t it be hard to succeed and any of these colleges with that gpa and sat score? or is it just like any other college in terms of workload and challenge? again, im not tryin to diss ur gpa or sat score…im just wondering. that way i can decide where i shud go too.

i feel like since my sat score kinda sux right now (1850) i didnt change it colij and missamerican pie : P i got a higher score on writing thank u very much. but i feel like i would probably not do so well if all the smart kids are there or sumthin lol

saying “i’m not trying to be rude” and then saying rude things does not make those things less rude. you would never say “wouldn’t it be hard to succeed and any of these colleges with that gpa and sat score?” to someone. jeez.

Poly is arguably the safest college in NYC; it’s in Brooklyn Heights (aka the ‘good part of Brooklyn’), as well as literally neighbors with the 911 central for *all *of New York City. (Cops on every corner is frequently an understatement.) It’s also in a pretty posh district called Metrotech - lots of important businesses/banks here, with the Fulton Mall and Brooklyn Tabernacle a few blocks over. Super nice…safe area, especially for New York City. The village isn’t as safe…uh, at all tbh lol. NYU’s campus is much more spread out, so if you think about it, you’re tons more likely to get mugged on your way to class at NYU than at Poly, where three of the main buildings (as well as the Starbucks) are actually physically connected.

Oh and it’s pretty in B’lyn Heights. My dorms will pwn yours if you get into NYU. I can see the Empire State Building, the Manhattan bridge, and some of the Brooklyn Bridge from my bedroom window. It’s super clean. There are like…cool secret locations around the Brooklyn Bridge with gorgeous views, the Brooklyn Promenade, etc. You’re cool in person I’m sure, but you gotta do your homework more lol :slight_smile:

Also, you can study biology, chem, biomolecular, etc at Poly. And take classes at NYU. But stick to your guts. I’m really not trying to recruit you at all REALLY, just defending my school. No, we are def not in the Bronx and honestly, I’m as scared of going to the Bronx as you are lol.

I like NYU. It’s an awesome school. It has a gazillion plus sides. But you are respectfully wrong about NYU-Poly.

@missamericanpie

well obviously…NYU is a more challenging school. and most people who get in have >3.2 and >1800 sat score. i think U of all ppl would know that.
