Anyone know if there are study abroad programs for Freshman (apps that are still available of course) just to get G.E.'s out of the way as an alternative to a Community College?

anyone in the same boat?

Can’t answer your question…but…congratulations on getting in to SCA! You should post on the “Official School Cinematic Arts 2014 applicants results” thread. They would be so happy to know that there are offers of spring admit for SCA.

Congratulations! To study abroad though one of USC’s official programs, these are the class-standing requirements:
[Eligibility > USC College of Letters, Arts & Sciences](http://college.usc.edu/eligibility/)

You could pursue an independant study abroad program, but the credits might not transfer. (The experience may be still worthwhile, though.) You can always apply for pre-approval (the form is on your Oasis account) for an independant progam and see if you can get credit.

Good luck!

thank you.

oh and thank you for the information on the Oasis pre-approval. i would love to check that out but i’m having trouble logging onto it. any help?

This is where I find it https://camel2.usc.edu/OASIS/Login.aspx . You log in with your USC ID and birthdate the first time and then set up a password. The transfer credit pre-approval is under “Request for Pre-approval to transfer course work to USC”

Any spring admits planning to attend another university for the Fall semester should get their classes pre-approved before classes begin in Fall. That way you should still easily be able to graduate on-time in May 2014.

sadly…still a failure to login…using the mmddyyyy password and the XXXXXXXXXX ID set-up login. Unfortunately…still no success

Well, yours is a temporary sadness because you KNOW you are accepted and it WILL eventually work! There will be plenty of time to get the paperwork in.

CONGRATULATIONS on your acceptance!

Congratulations! My son had the same situation/same major a couple years ago, and it was hard to find a study abroad program directly through a mainstream college or university that would take a pre-freshman. But there are some great (though expensive) semester abroad programs. His favorites were through National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) and “Where There Be Dragons”. Some of them provide college credit, and others don’t. My S didn’t need the credits because he had a lot of AP scores. He had settled on a semester in the Amazon, and we were about to send in the deposit on the day he got a call from admissions saying they had moved him up to Fall admission. He was so happy to be moved up, but kind of sad to miss out on the great adventure of 3 months in the Amazon jungle.

oh that’s great! do you know by when they will tell you if they’ve moved you to the fall?

oh that’s great! do you know by when they will tell you if they’ve moved you to the fall?

Generally you cannot fulfill your GE requirements outside of USC. The exceptions are for incoming transfer students and certain special summer study abroad programs.

There’s no set deadline for them moving a student from spring to fall, but there does seem to be a wave of changes in mid-May, after they’ve heard back from everyone who was offered fall admission. It operates a lot like a waitlist at other schools. Some years it may be a handful of people, but my son’s year we heard of at least 20 kids who got moved - and that was just from lurking around CC.

what major did you son apply for? which school bumped him up? because im undecided right now and i got in for the spring semester and i was just wondering if having a major gives a better chance of being bumped up

As I said above, he had the same major as the OP: SCA Critical Studies. I was told that some majors that have a very definite sequence were more likely to get bumped up. The only example they offered was Architecture, but they sort of hinted that engineering might also have a bump-up advantage. They certainly wanted us to believe that SCA students had a snowball’s chance in h+++ of being bumped. Sorry, but I have no idea if undecided will be a plus or a minus. Either way, it’s an amazing college!

Spring admits are the “informal” wait list…

Admission told me that they encourage Springers (my name) to either take GE at community college or go backpacking or work. just get pre-approval for classes. I am going to open house in April to find out all the stuff and options.
