Congrats and good luck!!!

B.mom,

D.'s looking to MICA as her top pick in Illustration or Graphic Arts. She really, really likes MICA...

I'd say Kansas City "might" be second due to quality of the two different NPD's reviews and their handling of her questions (although they do not have illustration program).

She liked the SCAD facilities and but not happy with dorm space or set-up.

It's all going to be determined by scholarship or grant offers. We are likely going to visit Kansas City, Ringling, Parsons and RIT before she makes a final choice is made.

S.Dad

I heard some recent poor words on Parsons (for a visit) on this site, but D's knows teacher at MICA who taught at Parsons for 16 years, and recommended it. Any words out there on Parsons versus Pratt?

How are people getting acceptances yet with even ED responses not in yet? I know that NPD reviewers can approve/accept portfolios, which amounts to acceptance pending school records, but I've never heard of anyone awarding scholarships this early! How does that work?

Jocan,
Quick note...
D. went to Pre-College Program at MICA, they can award scholarships to Seniors of varying amounts after the program is complete.
S.Dad

That's great! It must be nice to have an acceptance/scholarship in hand this early. And the others were portfolio approvals from NPD?

BTW, how does she like the MICA facilities and neighborhood? I've heard mixed things about the neighborhood.

I reread your other posts and I think what you are saying is that she already had admissions approve her high school records and all other necessary info, so all that was needed at NPD was to have the portfolio approved? Wish I'd known that before I went!

jocan, i got in to art center because its not regular admissions, its rolling admission and i was able to send out my portfolio and application by September 10th. Though its a bit different because art center tries to let you know if you get in 3 weeks after you send in your application

Putting in a comment so also re-posting the list...

Now for the comment. All of my D's schools are rolling admissions(decision time 2-4 weeks from completed application/test scores/transcripts all being in). Two of them she knew about in July as I encouraged her to apply at the very end of junior year. Some schools have a very stress-free way of determining scholarship, kind of a grid that if your stats meet certain criteria you automaticly get the scholarship(two of D's schools had that and when her scores went up on a second taking, she got more money!).

I encourage all students to look closely at each school's website and see what their scholarship offerings are.

Jocan,
On the approvals, d. went to MICA pre-college and if a senior they have a portfolio review at the end of the program, and determine status for acceptance (or not).
Pre-college at MICA is an excellent way to decide if the school is a fit both ways (student & school). Many precollege students email one another afterwards, so they know what MICA has been doing.
On the MICA neighborhood, everyone is going to have their own opinions here. Since I feel perfectly comfortable moving around Manhattan and New York City (I'm from the South BTW) and know where and when I can be "somewhere", I like the Baltimore area and the area around MICA. There are plenty of parts of Baltimore that could be a problem but not they are generally away from the college (but problems can arise anywhere). I can say that about almost any city.
The MICA security is excellent, they patrol, and really work on keeping the area around the school safe. The Pre-college program will REALLY give the student a feel for the city. Plus the staff and college counselors are intent on keeping the students out of trouble. They keep them busy alll the time, and a very tired and engaged student has less tendency to wander.

SCAD we had a visit and a admissions advisor review. On the other approvals, d. went to NPD as a Junior and returned as a Senior (so the folks know her well).
SCAD for example, is more spread out around Savannah, and while I did not have a problem there, it "could" be a longer commute to get to classes. BTW I saw SCAD security at work and shuttles, and they were also excellent.

I've never bothered to learn the bold/italic thingie so the update is for Utah.

Believersmom: Congratulations to your D!! Wow! Mine has all of her applications in and is about to do her first big audition this weekend, and here your daughter has already been accepted to a gazillion places! Way to go.

Yeah, don't be TOO impressed, she doesn't have to do the audition thing. It puts me in awe of those students that have to apply AND audition - our house would be an ugly place right now if we had that to contend with as well. Not to mention all of these schools she has been admitted to are rolling admit, makes life for instant gradification-types a bit more tolerable.

I half-think why she is losing interest in some of the schools she previously was so hot on is because she is having to wait for their admission decisions while she is already getting a lot of love from those listed above. She still has a long way to go as she BETTER get some scholarship apps going here (LOL).

Sure will be great to see some more admissions on here soon and see where everyone ends up.

I plan to double major in Metals/Jewelry/CAD-CAM and Japanese. I found out about an hour ago and I'm still on the adreneline high from jumping up and down so much. ^_^

Gee, SilverandJade, can I take it this means you are pleased? :) Congratulations!

Yep.^_^ I'm really pleased. I wasn't particularly worried about getting in and I had known for a while that I passed my portfolio review, but it's just so nice to have it official. It's completely lifted off of my shoulders now and I can actually tell people where I'm going.

That's a wonderful feeling, isn't it?

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And that is a "final" correct?

Bumping up - keep adding the good news everyone...
