Accepted Students Class of '18: Notice of Scholarships Received?

Our oldest applied in late July and was accepted the first week in August. Fast turn around. But now...

How long until accepted students start to hear about scholarships (if they are offered one) and is that information sent via snail mail or posted on their Pitt page?
Also, has anyone already been offered a scholarship for class of 2018?

T

We were told by OAFA that scholarship offers will be sent out beginning in November. On the other hand, admissions decisions began going out earlier than expected, so who knows? But I would not expect to hear anything before November.

FYI, my kid has been admitted. No info on scholarship on this point. We prob got same info you did- file would be reviewed by scholarship committee and if offered one, he’d be notified down the road. I think past threads indicate November is when people start hearing but even if we don’t hear anything then, i won’t consider kid out of the running until later in the year(say maybe late January).

My son got accepted in mid-August - Arts & Sciences and Honors College. I called the Admissions Office last week. Spoke to some random person who happened to answer the phone, and she said we won’t hear about scholarships until January. That seems ridiculously late and defeats the purpose of trying to lock up these kids with early acceptances so I’m hoping that November is more accurate.

My D got notice of full tuition scholarship last weekend.

Sydney, if you don’t mind, did your D receive her scholarship notification with the acceptance letter or separately? If separately? When did she receive acceptance notification? Thanks!

Separate. She got her acceptance back on Oct.

Thanks, Sydney! More waiting…

is it necessary to submit an essay to qualify for a scholarship? I feel like the pitt prestige application almost defeats its purpose of giving you “priority consideration for scholarships”, since writing an essay and demonstrating your interest in the school would probably give you a better chance at getting one

i got my acceptance into the UHC about a month ago, but no word of scholarships yet

It’s wise to write an essay.

^ True dat.

I’ll offer some anecdotal evidence. My son was just below the published 1400 M&CR cutoff for the UHC but was accepted. Why? I have no idea except that he submitted an essay and teacher recommendations instead of the minimum required for the Prestige Application. The extra effort certainly didn’t hurt.
