Accepted to BU

So I recently choose to attend Boston University in the Fall as Freshman. I am super excited. However I cannot attend the Open House because I cant miss that day of school and my parents have to work. I just wanted to know from attending students what Boston University is like? I want to work hard but also want to party and have fun, so is that possible? And everyone says good things about Boston University, whats one bad thing?

Don’t hate on me. I have 2 cons:

 1. No campus
 2. Reputation as the place to be if you get rejected from Northeastern

@XtremePower - I think BU is trying really hard to change their reputation as a safety for kids that couldn’t make it into the top tier Boston area schools. Our valedictorian this year got rejected from BU but accepted into Harvard and Stanford because I think she made it apparent in her application that BU was simply one of her “safety nets” if the Ivy League schools wouldn’t let her in.

I think BU is gradually going to get on par with NEU in the near future. :)

Weird. NEU has always been called a place for BU rejects. BU is usually compared with BC, not NEU.

Twenty years ago this was true, not today.

I have literally heard no one say “I chose BU because I got rejected from Northeastern.” Many BU students also get accepted to Northeastern-they are ranked similarly, with BU having a higher rating in most reports from what I’ve seen. NEU is also a good school, but it depends on what your interests are and if you want the co-op program.

To answer OP’s questions-BU is a school that you can work hard and have fun. If you manage your work you can do whatever you want with your time.

One con-the BU administration can be hard to get through if you have a problem-since BU is a larger school, no one is going to hold your hand like in high school, so you will have to take initiative in getting things done. However, I’ve found most of the BU staff & professors to be great.

^I actually have met people have said that. Check the SAT scores of each, things are changing.

But overall, both schools are pretty equal.

DD goes to BU and loves it so much she volunteers as a tour guide. The only negative is housing, which is done by lottery number for soph jr and senior. This Spring for example, they didn’t know until they arrived at the housing lottery site that there was no housing available for 4… It was pretty uncomfortable for DD to pick just 1person to room with and make a choice on the spot, leaving the other two to wait for their lottery number. On the flip side, I believe that you are guaranteed housing, and the food on campus is AMAZING!

See the problem with northeastern is that it has a ceiling whereas BU doesn’t really. Once you get to a certain point schools become more academic and liberal arts based than focusing on work experience. Also I was an accepted student at both schools. I chose BU.

Check the common data set.
Boston University Average SAT: 1910
Northeastern University Average SAT: 2000

Almost 100 points difference is nothing to sneeze at.

LOL good one.

Don’t know what this means.

You aren’t taking into account the CGS kids that are admitted that bring the averages down and usually pay full tuition… Northeastern is a coop school and thats fine and dandy and it has good real world application but because of this northeastern will max out.
