Dear John,

Congratulations! Later this month, you will receive a letter from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Washington University, informing you of your admission to the John M. Olin School of Business as a member of the Class of 2010. You have been selected from an extraordinarily talented group of applicants to join the class of new first-year students who will enter Olin next fall.

Each student who is being offered admission to Olin's entering class has outstanding credentials. You are among an especially select group with great potential to contribute to making Olin an even better school, and to benefit from the exceptional educational opportunity we offer.

We know how special you are; and we want you to see for yourself how special Olin can be for your undergraduate education. We are delighted to invite you and your parents to the Olin Spotlight Weekend, which is being hosted jointly by the Olin School and the Olin Ambassadors, a group of our most enthusiastic current students, who serve as hosts and tour guides for prospective students considering joining the Olin community.

The dates of the Olin Spotlight Weekend are Friday, April 7 through Sunday, April 9. We will pay for each student's round-trip airfare to attend this special weekend and students will be hosted in Washington University's residence halls during their stay on our campus. Please go to [taken out] in order to RSVP for the weekend and to obtain information on scheduling your travel. Please reply at your earliest convenience, as space is limited for this event.
You can contact [taken out]with any questions regarding the weekend or your reservation at [taken out].

Congratulations again on your admission to the John M. Olin School of Business at Washington University. We look forward to greeting you at the Olin Spotlight Weekend.

i got this too, does anyone know what percentage of admits get one? i am trying to figure out how good a sign it is in terms of getting a scholarship

I got this also. And I have the same question as the good Doctor. Not for scholarships so much as for insight into my chances at other schools...

Do we know if Olin is harder or easier to get into than the College of A&S? I know that their entering class is rather on the small side.

I live in Michigan, and the business school at the University of Michigan definitely leaves Olin in the dust. Even though it is an obvious choice for me, I haven't found out whether I got in or not. They are admitting around 70-100 people for their BBA program as entering freshmen.

In business Wash U. is like 11 or something. But it's really much better than that - the way they rank them is messed up. For example, Texas is above Olin. Makes no sense.

I don't think ths email means it's not as competitive as the other colleges...I don't think everyone who got in received this early thing. Just those "among an especially select group with great potential to contribute to making Olin an even better school." They may have the stats on their site. I'll invesitagate.

Darkmaranth, I wouldn't be so quick to diss Olin. Their ranking may be a bit lower or something, but their programs are exceptional. In five years, Olin will be among the top five, I should think.

tmasta:
what I meant is that for someone who lives instate, and who only has to pay $20000 a year (but i got a schoship), it would take a WHOLE LOT for me to choose Olin over Ross.
