I've been accepted under the English Enhancement program, can someone explain what is this program, is it for one semester only or for four years, what courses does it require?

thanks

Your admission letter should explain most of the details about the program; if you have further questions, you'll want to contact Kelly Bollhofer (kelly.bollhofer at stonybrook.edu), who coordinates the program in the admissions office.

Chris D'Orso
Stony Brook University

Chris, how long does it take for stony brook to receive our sat scores from the testing company? Also, does Stony brook notify the applicants when the application supplements(transcript and sats) are received/processed?

I submitted my transfer application a couple of weeks ago and had my sats sent right away along with my last hs transcript(i don't have any college credits yet), but the application status page only says that my application "was sent to campus." Is this as much information as the online status check will provide or can I expect more info to be updated later?

Thanks.

frasi2 - It depends on how you had them sent. If you had them sent rush, then we get the paper scores within a few days; if they're regular report, it could be a couple of weeks.

Chris

It was regular report. Should I sent them as rush as well?

saffa, is it on the admission packet letter that says English Enhancement?Because chances are if it is, I think unless you're not english proficient (ESL) then you don't need that. I have that on my admission letter before. But afterward I took the writing placement exam that they have and I passed to get in regular writing class.

Eva's right... sorry I forgot to include more detail. There's really not much to the "program," necessarily; you'll take the same writing proficiency exam as everyone else this summer, and if you do well, you'll place into the WRT 101; if not, then you'll place somewhere into the ESL sequence of courses.

Chris, Would it be wise to send my sat scores again as rush eventhough I had them sent regular about a week ago? and will stony brook post the materials received online?

Thank you.

Sorry - forgot to respond. We don't post materials received online; our system's not set up to do that yet. (Hopefully for '08.) I wouldn't rush them; save the couple of bucks. If you'd like, have your high school fax them to us at 631-632-9898. Put them to my attention and I'll get them into your file.

-Chris

actually, i think it is more like $25 dollars.

Also, how long does it take for some kind of confirmation that your application was received or is being evaluated to appear? I sent my application a couple of weeks ago and all the solar system says is

"Status of application:-"

Thank you for the help.

Usually takes us a couple of weeks to put all the pieces together; especially if you just sent SATs, that'll be blank for a while. If you're able to log in to the system, then your application is recieved; you wouldn't have gotten a Stony Brook ID number if we didn't have your app. We'll send you a letter if we're missing anything. If you're not sure, e-mail us.
