Anyone gotten the scholarship letter yet? How long did it arrive after the acceptance letter? It has been over three weeks for me now and still no scholarship letter...

ZF, good question. OUR DD last year waited until, I beileve, March and got no letter. So she called and they told her she did not get the award for NMF. That forced us in dropping OSU honor as an option. I could not remember what exactly was the date but probably in April, we got either a letter or an e-mail saying she was awarded full tuition. By that time, DD has already signed with her school.

Wow, that long huh? Makes me wonder why the student I talked to told me both on the phone and over email that I would receive it in just a few weeks following the acceptance. Eh, guess I'll just have to be patient

I haven't heard of anyone getting any scholarship notification yet.

I obviously won't since I found out I'm in the top 11% of our class and not 10% (our school doesn't weight) as of the end of last year. I thought I might at least get the Provost, but obviously not so. OSU may be out since I can go to a closer state school for less. Really disappointing. I hate that 10% thing, at least at our school where the kids who don't even take classes at our school and are in tech programs somewhere are lumped into the same ranking somehow. :(

zakface--DADII is talking about the National Merit Scholarship only (the Distinguished Scholarship)--which is not awarded until all of the data from the NMC about first choice schools is sent out. It is not received by OSU until mid-March, and once they have all of the correct information, award notices are sent out in early April. Likewise, winners of the Presidential and Medalist Scholarships are not notified until after the Maximus Competition in February. Winners of other merit scholarships, such as the Provost, should be notified in the next week or so.
friedpasta: don't fret too much about the 10% cutoff--I have seen many instances of students receiving merit scholarships who don't meet that particular requirement.

Good Luck to all!

Thanks for the vote of confidence. However, I was invited to Scholars rather than Honors (which is fine, preferred Scholars anyway), so it's pretty clear to me that I'm just not going to make the cut. When I estimate the aid, it's all in loans, just can't swing that and don't want my parents to. If I lived a mile down the road in official "Appalchia", I'd be set...grrr. Sometimes it seems my hard work was for nothing.

Love OSU, but oh, well, Kent is looking better all the time...well, actually not, but I have to convince myself! lol

rcefn, thanks for the clarification.

Yes, the Provost award (2700?) was received with the Honor acceptance, I think, in the early part of the process.

Makes more sense now. I knew NMF wouldn't be until later obviously, I'm more eager to find out about the other awards anyways (not too confident about becoming a finalist...).

Wow, jinxed myself. Just got rejected for finalist today.

wait what??? How do you know . Are you talking about NMF??? Because I thought we find out the end of January???

Fried pasta, What do you mean if you "lived a mile down the road in official "Appalchia", I'd be set."? We live in "official Appalachia" and my son didn't get any extra money from OSU for it. However, I would say if you really like OSU, don't give up on it quite yet. Apply for as many outside scholarships as you can and wait and see how your financial package turns out. My S received more in outside scholarships than he did from OSU.

OSU doesn't give anything for Appalachia - I mean the county line just down the road from me. That's just my personal situation, for outside scholarships. A lot of local scholarships for the certain Appalachian counties surrounding where I live. This part of the county where I live should probably be considered Appalachia but wandering outside of a county line doesn't apply. The northern part of the county is somewhat wealthy so the scholarships available are often for students only in extreme need rather than those like me who are in need and can't pay easily...but not impoverished.

It's becoming more depressing as I apply for these things. So many are focused on stellar students - I am a great student, but not a "stellar" student. My high school is not considered competitive. There are few local scholarships for the rural area where I live that I qualify to apply. Instead of being excited by OSU, I am getting more sad that I likely can't go there. But I know I'm not the only one in this situation. Maybe in another economic time, but not now.

I didn't think I'd find out this early either friedpasta but I got a letter in the mail from them denying me. Who knows, maybe they only send out the rejection letters this early?

How long did it take for everyone to hear back after their app turned to the "evaluation" phase?

mine turned to evaluation about 1 week after thanksgiving, and i am still waiting. do you think if i will hear back by the end of this month?

Mine took about a month to come back.

who else is still waiting? why are they taking so long?

its been almost 2 months, and i am still waiting. should i call them and ask them why they take so long?
