I'll most likely be majoring in either finance or accounting at Smeal. I've heard that math minors are favorable with business degrees?!? Can anyone speak to this? How are the math classes (particularly 200/300/400 levels) at PSU? I have already taken calculus I and II and am considering continuing on in pursuit of a minor. Is it true that no calculators are allowed in some of the math courses at PSU? Thanks in advance for any help.

Don’t know much about that stuff but I know for a fact that you can’t use a calculator for exams at PSU.

The math courses are specifically designed not to require a calculator. Any basic math will be trivial. The courses are about concepts not how to punch numbers into a calculator. Most students (including engineering and science majors) don’t take much beyond math 251 differential equations. Once in the 300 and 400 level classes you see a lot more analysis (i.e. proofs). Difficulty is matter of opinion. Most students find math 251 difficult but the 400 level analysis classes are a distinct step up from the plug and chug of calculus.
